This chapter is dedicated to the guy that followed me, and the woman that made him leave me alone.
TW: guns and stuff (sorry it's really fucking long)
5:18. That's what was on the clock when Dennis bolted up. Someone was pounding on the door. He stood up, shivering, and put on a shirt before going to answer it. He reached out to open it but paused when he heard someone yelling on the other side.
"Dolores!" It was Shrew. "I got a relibubble source tellin me that this is where you always run off to... Come on baby, what are ya doin at this dump?"
There was a slight slur to his voice, suggesting that he wasn't himself.
He started to pound on the door again. "I know you're in there... Come on out, Dolores. I wanna see your pretty face. Don't tryna tell me I came all the way put here fer nothin..."
Dennis stumbled back to his futon, and shook Cody awake. She grumbled and pulled the blanket tighter around herself.
"Cody... C-Cody it's Shrew. He's drunk or something and he's outside and I dunno what to do and-"
"Shut up," She groaned, not really listening. "His name's Hillary."
"What?"
"Shrew's real name is Hillary."
"I don't care. Cody, he's breaking my door down."
The pounding stopped and was replaced to Shrew- I mean Hillary- drunkenly singing "That's Amore" horribly out of tune.
"What the fuck?" Cody finally rolled over, eyes barely open. "What's going on?"
"WhEn the mOON hITs youR EyE LiKe a bIG pIzZA pIE thAT's AMOREEEEEEE- Dolores listen ta this one- wHEN it SuLks IN a rEEF aNd has tWO sETS of teEtH thAT's A MORAYYYYYYY. hehe ya see what i did there?"
Cody groaned. "I don't have the patience for this. Just let him wear himself out."
"But-"
"I'm a growing girl, Dennis. Lemme sleep."
The singing evolved into sobbing. "Dolores, please... It's been so long since I've been with a woman like yourself.... I'm sorry, Ivy. IVY. WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME? WHAT DID I DO?" He broke down into tears.
Dennis was beginning to feel bad for him.
Hillary went on for about half an hour of recounting each and every one of his ex-wives-and-girlfriends. A third to this was solely dedicated to a spiteful tale of "that bitch Lorraine," who apparently stole his money and ran off with his sister on their fifth date. Cody laughed at that.
For once, laughter was a mistake. Hillary heard her and started pounding on the door again. "Dolores! Dolores what the fuck?! What's wrong with you?" His sobs escaped between syllables. "Why are you laughing at me... You bitch. YOU BITCH." The relentless thuds echoed throughout the small shack. Cody and Dennis didn't even realize how tightly they were holding onto each other, or that they were holding each other at all. Hillary stopped screaming, and the duo relaxed for a split second.
A gun cocked. They were terrified once more. Cody shoved the boy off of her and scrambled for her pistol.
"You left it in the car," Dennis said in a rushed whisper.
Cody turned back to him, her eyes wide. She left everything in the car. The mask, the wig, the money, the gun... Everything. How could she have been so careless?
Dennis shakily stood up, backing towards the kitchen area. He grabbed a knife off of the counter.
"What the Hell are you doing?" Cody hissed. "Haven't you ever heard the phrase 'Don't bring a knife to a gun fight?'"
"Isn't it 'Don't bring a gun to a knife fight?'"
"Does that really fucking matter right now?"
"Ye-" Dennis began, but was interrupted by bullets firing through the door.
With the bullets being the final straw, the flimsy door collapsed. There he stood, Hillary "Shrew" Whatever-his-last-name-is. His wide frame took up the entire doorway, and the look on his face was pure wet rage.
"Dolores." He choked out. He looked around the room, searching for her. Only two teenagers looked back. He gritted his teeth and cocked his gun again.
"Where is she." More of a statement then a question.
"She's not here." Cody said, her cool and confident façade practically destroyed due to the pressure.
"And who the Hell are you two?"
"W-We... We..." Cody looked at her literal partner in crime for help.
"We're her kids."
Hillary and Cody were both equally surprised.
"She... She's got- Never mind. Just... Tell your mother I'll pay her back for the door. I didn't know she got... Kids..." He retreated, embarrassed.
"Oh my God..." Cody whispered. "I... I didn't think that would work."
"Neither did I." Dennis said, putting the knife down.
"You're smarter than I thought you were," Her façade began to rebuild itself. "Either that or he's way dumber."
They fake-laughed, trying to shake off the tense atmosphere. "Shrew" was still outside, standing by his car in defeat. Cody poked her head out.
"Hey," She said, trying to seem empathetic. "Are you okay?"
"I just opened my heart to a couple 'a kids. What do you think?"
"You really like my... My mom?"
"I don't 'like' nobody," Hillary tensed up again. "You tell your muddah one word about this interaction and I'll blow yer fuckin head off."
He turned to look back at her, but something else caught his eye.
((yeah uhhhhh we're at almost 1,000 words so i'll continue this next chapter))
