Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third was in the middle of his fire fighter training. He was known as an explorer: teens who would train to become fire fighters. They would help out with fires at times: for training.

At the moment they were doing hose training. Stoick Haddock was the fire chief. Hiccup was the third generation of Haddock's in the firefighting business.

When they were in the middle of training this page went off: 'This is a page for the Berk Fire Department. You are needed at 23 Nadder Rd. This is for a report of a house fire. Smoke is showing. Police are responding. Repeat: 23 Nadder Rd. for a house fire.'

Everyone got their gear on and got on the rigs and they were off.

"Is anyone still inside?" Hiccup asked when he got out of the engine.

"Astrid. She was grabbing Stormfly." Mr. Hofferson told him.

"Goose! I'm going in to get her!" Hiccup called to an older fire fighter.

"Wait! Hiccup!" Goose shouted but it was to late, Hiccup was already inside the building with his air mask on.

"Astrid? Astrid? Are you in here?" Hiccup called her name.

Then he heard coughing from a small room off of the kitchen.

"Astrid?" Hiccup asked.

"In - in h-her." Astrid coughed.

Hiccup went into the room to find Astrid on the floor. It had obviously been were Stormfly was but Stormfly was no where to be found.

"Let's get you out of here." Hiccup said, "Can you crawl towards the front door?"

Astrid nodded while coughing. Hiccup took off his air mask and put it over Astrid's face.

"Deep breaths."Hiccup instructed, as he took the pack off of this back.

Gently he put the air tank onto her back and secured it. Hiccup crawled out of the room for a second to see that the kitchen was almost consumed in flames.

"Astrid, quickly crawl towards the back door. Now." Hiccup basically commanded, forcing his voice to be calm.

Astrid looked at him frightened, but nodded and did so. Hiccup went to follow but after Astrid got out of the house: the house exploded. Hiccup was still inside.

"HICCUP!" Stoick yelled after the explosion, that's when he began to give some orders, "Get an inch and a half in there!"

"Right!" Duce said, going to do it.

After a few minutes, Ducky came out of the back door with an unconscious Hiccup over his shoulders.

W (Dubya)(Hehe that's my brother's nickname on the department) and Care Bear (Btw these are all nicknames used in the BDFD) brought over the gurney and Ducky put Hiccup on it.

"Hiccup..." Stoick said, hurrying over.

"We're taking him to the hospital now." W said.

Stoick nodded, his body numb. Hiccup had to be okay.

Soon the ambulance was off on it's way to Berk Community Hospital.

............ A few weeks later........

Hiccup walked into his 10th grade homeroom with his new prosthetic leg. This was his first day back.

"Hey Hiccup." Astrid said, walking over by him.

"Hey Astrid."

"I just wanted to thank you for saving my life in the fire. I was going to visit you in the hospital but your dad said no visitors except fire fighters. Are they basically your family?"

Hiccup nodded.

Ruff, Tuff, Fishlegs, and Snotlout came over.

"You really saved Astrid?" Snotlout asked.

Hiccup nodded and took a drink from his water bottle.

"But why? I thought that you.........." Ruff started.

"I'm a fire fighter. I wouldn't let anyone be stuck in a fire. Cause when you are all getting out. We're going in." Hiccup cut Ruff off.

"But why did you risk your own life to save Astrid's?" Fishlegs asked.

"It's part of the job." Hiccup responded before the first bell rung.

.......................................................

Hello!

I thought of this one-shot as I was burning a bon-fire. (To be truthful I took a shower and I still smell of smoke)

All the firefighters mentioned in this are/were firefighters in my community. Goose, Duce, Care Bear, Ducky, and W. W is my 2nd oldest brother Matt.

Matt is a third generation firefighter.

Many firefighters get killed every year on calls. They die cause they are trying to save lives.

This includes a close family friend last year, January 16th: His name was Kenny (nickname). He had just got home, he was still on shift and had just got done with some calls. He went home and he was plowing his driveway. He went back inside and sat down on his bed. His wife, Cookie (nickname, I think), went into their room to tell him it was time for dinner. She found him dead. He died of a heart attack, I think it was anyway. He was 2 years younger than my dad. RIP Kenny.

My dad lost all inspiration to be a firefighter after that and retired on January 16, 2017.

I think that I want to become an explorer one of these years......maybe next school year I will.......Only time will tell

I connect with the song at the top. That was my life when my dad was still a firefighter. That song kinda describes most of my childhood.

Anyway......... I may have gotten a bit carried away...... Oh well...

God's blessings!

Mag
