Chapter 9

"Everybody takes a weapon," Rick told us as he rolled out and artillery of weapons that Carl found. The kid was pretty proud of himself and it was adorable to watch.

"These aren't the kind of weapons we need," Andrea sneered, "what about the guns?"

I had to say, I was getting sick of her more as the days went on. If she didn't cool her attitude she was going to meet my right fist.

"We've been over that," Shane said seeming as sick of it as I was, "Daryl, Rick and I are carrying. We can't have people popping off rounds every time a tree rustles." He actually had a good point.

"It's not the trees I'm worried about," she snapped back.

"Say somebody fires at the wrong moment, a herd happens to be passing by," with that she had nothing to say back, "See, then it's game over for all of us. So you need to get over it,"

"The idea is to take the creek up about five miles, turn around and come back down the other side. Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark" Daryl said looking up slightly, our eyes meeting but it didn't last to long as he quickly looked away.

"Stay quiet and stay sharp. Keep space between you but always stay within sight of each other," Rick added quickly before walking over to Dale

"Everybody assemble your packs," Shane ordered as if nothing Rick said was important.

"Keep on those repairs. We've got to get this R. V. ready to move," Rick said to Dale as everyone dispatched to get what they needed for the search.

I couldn't help but add "we won't stay here a minute longer than we have to," making heads turn towards me for speaking my mind. It seems they agreed with me when Rick gave me a nod. Slowly I was making my own place in this group and I didn't know if I liked that or not. Especially when it came to this little girl.

"Good luck out there. Bring Sophia back," Dale basically begged Rick as I walked away towards my car. I didn't have much so I probably wouldn't need a big backpack for it. When I opened the trunk I couldn't help but pick up a simple hand gun and attempt to aim it in the distance.

"Yer gonna hurt yourself," I couldn't help but jump at the sudden sound of Daryl's voice behind me.

"Am not," I mumbled, tossing it back where it came from. Even with the gun out of my hands, he didn't leave, I felt his eyes still on me. I had a feeling he wanted to say more but he was fighting with himself.

"How 'bout you stay behind," he asked but it sounded more like a demand than a request. I look over my shoulder at him throwing a glare at him as I packed some water into a small messenger bag. I knew that water wasn't going to be enough if Grayson and I decide to leave but being by Carol's side made it hard to search through these cars.

"Ain't no way in hell I'm staying behind," I hissed turning back slamming the trunk shut my eyes staying focused on the chipping paint. If I learned enough from Dale maybe I could give my car a tune-up of some kind.

"I wasn't asking," he growled coming a bit closer to me but I didn't care. No one, not even this guy was going to stop me from finding Sophia. I couldn't help but wonder why he was so set on having me stay behind, I haven't had a single conversation with the guy till now.

"I noticed," I mocked making my way around him but he grabbed me by my elbow. "Let me go!"

"I got a bad feelin' and you need to stay here," he insisted. With me being as stubborn as I am pulled my arm away. Who the hell does this guy think he is?

"You worry about your people and I'll worry about mine," I remarked, my eyes moving to Grayson. He was getting a pack ready with Glenn, they hit it off very fast when we showed up. Grayson spent all his time by Glenn's side, its like he forgot about me the minute a new male came into the picture.

It was the same way before the outbreak but I didn't mind it back then. Now in this world we only have each other and yet he still seems to forget about me. There was still no way in hell I could leave him here with these people, which meant only one thing. I was stuck.
