Chapter 42

Something was happening, the sound of a car in the  distance was getting closer. When it registered, my eyes shot open. It was still dark, it had to be the middle of the night. I opened the flap of the tent, peering out. The car came to a stop, Shane and Lori stepped out even from here I could see that she was hurt. I rushed over along with everyone else.

"Oh my God, are you all right? What happened? " Andrea asked her as Shane rushed to Lori's side.

"I was in an accident. I'm fine, I'm fine. " Lori insisted as she waved Shane off. "Where's Rick?" no one answered her. She looked up at all of us, the terror was clear in her eyes as they landed on Shane.

"They're not back?" Again no answer. Her eyes are still on Shane, "where are they," they made eye contact, if looks could kill Shane would be dead.

"Look, I had to get you back here," he explained to her, her eyes tuned into a blase of fire at his words.

"You asshоlе, hes my husband," she hissed as she advanced towards him, her fists making contact with his chest as she shoved him.

"Lori, I will go after him," he promised her as he pushed her off of him, "I will find him. Hey! Now look, first things first... I gotta... I gotta look after you. I gotta make sure the baby's all right, okay?" Everyone froze, all eyes now on Lori. Did I hear him right? There's no fucking way that he just said that. Lori was frozen in shock, I'm guessing she wasn't expecting him to out her like that... Oh my God, is it his baby? There's no way it's his... right?

"You're having a baby?" Carl asked, making his presence known to us. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Lori couldn't speak as she stared at her child, Dale ended the silence, "come on. Let's make sure you're all right," he told her. Andrea took Lori by the hand and led her inside with all of us following close behind.

We all sat around the room as Andrea went to get Lori a glass of water, "I am so sorry that I left without telling you," Lori told Carl.

"It's okay, I wasn't scared," he assured her, "when's dad getting back?"

"Let's hope soon."

"I wanna be there when you tell him about the baby." Carl said, you could tell her was excited, it was adorable.

"Oh, love, he already knows. We were just trying to find the right time to tell you." she explained to him, for a second Carl looked deep in thought.

He finally asked, "Is it a boy or a girl?" he kept coming up with questions on the spot which made Lori chuckle

"You must have a lot of questions, huh? We never had the talk. I guess we forgot." Well we are in an apocalypse so it's not that surprising that something so 'normal' would be forgotten about.

Carl immediately looked over at Dale, "don't look at me. That's your father's job." he told him, I couldn't help but giggle at the look on Dale's face.

"If the baby's a girl, can we name her Sophia?" Carl asked, Lori just stared at him. That's when Shane came into the doorway, looming over us like a villain from a Disney movie but way worse. I took that moment to excuse myself and headed back outside.

Daryl still hadn't come back to the tent so I just laid down. My mind was starting to race, Lori's pregnant, in nine short months there will be a crying baby. Basically a dinner bell for the Walkers. I know we all hope that the Greene's will let us stay here but with Shane's increasing behavior it felt like staying was just a pipe dream.

I needed to keep Gray safe, if they end up forcing us to leave their farm we'd be walker bait with a crying child. The problem was, I don't think he would leave with me, he's gotten close to these people just like I have and it's not like I could force him to leave with me if I came down to it. I guess we'll just have to take it day by day and see how it goes.
