I have to drop these off to Alex's room." I said gesturing to the balloons and cards and flowers. She smiled weakly. "You're a nice friend Noah." "Thanks." "Tell Kaylee I said happy valentines day?" "It's Valentine's Day?...oh yeah. Yeah." I said and walked out with a one least 'bye'. It's Valentine's Day, February 14. Already? Walking to Alex's room, the doctor just came out. "Are you a guest?" "Um yes. I came to see her." "She's not awake right now but you can leave the gifts on the table." "Oh.... thank you." He nodded and was about to walk away, "When will she get out? I mean... all my friends." "Others probably in 3 days or so But Ms. Alex... when she wakes up we have to do tests and then we'll see." I nodded and he walked away then turned the door knob. She was there, a breathing mask on, wearing the hospital gown, the covers up to her neck, shots on her arm, and the heart monitor going. I put the balloon down, the card, and put the flowers in the vase.

Her breathing was quiet and shallow. I took one last glance at her, gathered my stuff, and left. The bus ride home was unusually quiet, the only thing that I noticed was that couples held hands and flirted. When I got home and began my homework, the calendar on my wall had something circled in red for February 6. Why was February 6 so important?..............Then it hit me.
I had missed Kaylee's birthday.
