Riley returned to work within a week or so. Things were relatively smooth. Things between Riley and the others have gotten better, they have begun to look at the young tech expert as their kid sister, seeing as Riley is the youngest there.

Riley was in the break room sitting down at a chair looking at her phone, she had a message from her dad. She groans and placed her arms to rest on her forehead as she shakes her head.

"Everything okay, Riley?" It was Erin.

Riley looks up pretending to smile, "Just family, you know how it is."

Erin nods as she walked to the coffee maker, "Family is hard."

Riley nods as she put her phone in her pocket, "We don't get to pick our family."

Erin leaned against the counter while sipping her coffee, "Sometimes you do," Erin said, "Look at this unit, Riley. We're all like family."

Riley thought about it for a moment, "But in families we're all honest."

Erin nods, "We all are."

Riley said nothing.

"Riley, is there something bothering you besides those messages?" Erin asks.

Riley shakes her head, "Uh- I have paperwork to do."

Erin watched the youngest in the unit up and head to her tech room. Within a few seconds, Jay entered in grabbing a cup of coffee.

"Hey, I think something is bothering Riley." Erin said as she touched his shoulder.

Jay looks at his partner, "I wouldn't know, Erin. As friendly as Riley can be, she is a bit closed off." He said.

Erin nods agreeing, "I know, Jay. I just want her to feel like she can trust all of us." She said.

Jay takes a sip of his coffee and turns to Voight talking to the others outside the break room, "Think Voight knows what's up with Riley?"

Erin begins to leave, "Wouldn't surprise me." She said.

The team was called to a crime scene, and that included Riley. There was a car bomb going off at a local park in a more low income neighborhood, and Riley was there to use her tech brain anyway Voight needed it.

Riley watched the officers do there thing, but Riley walked over to a piece of metal and plastic on the ground. She had gloves on and knelt down to look at the metal closely.

"What you have there?" Voight asks.

"Some kind of metal? Maybe the bomb was attached to something metal, I won't know more until I have all the pieces." Riley said.

"I see," Voight said.

Riley's phone was ringing, she reached for it and saw it was her dad again. She ended the call and put it in her pocket.

"Sorry, sir." Riley said.

Voight looks at her, "Everything okay, Schmidt?" He asks.

Whenever they were out of the district, Voight would refer to Riley as her last name much like the other officers.

Riley turns to him, "Just- nothing," She then turned to face him while kneeling, "It's my dad. He's been calling me for the last day or so."

"What does he want?" Voight asks.

Riley shrugs, "Haven't answered him."

Voight said nothing because he was pulled in a different direction by Olinsky and Dawson. As Riley continued work, she had a text message by her dad but choose to ignore it.
