Aftermath

Time has passed since Riley was released from the hospital. Time has passed since Nancy and Peter up and vanished. Time has passed since Riley was given full custody and guardianship of Grace and Lorelei. Time has passed since Will and Riley moved the girls into a larger apartment together.

It was nearing the end of the school year, summer was coming up.

Riley slipped on her black leather jacket over her dark blue shirt she was wearing, as well as black skinny jeans, and black vans.

"Kids, Will!" Riley shouts, "Hurry up! We'll be late!"

Coming down was Lorelei first. Since taking guardianship, Riley had pulled both Lorelei and Grace from private school for two reasons; number one, it was too expensive and number two, both girls didn't like it.

So Riley enrolled them into a public school, despite being told it was far too late in the season to enroll the girls.

Lorelei was wearing a yellow and black striped tank top, black skinny jeans, and yellow converses. Riley glanced at her sister, noticing her sister was adjusting her well her chest.

"Put a jacket on," Riley said.

Lorelei turns to Riley, "Come on," She turns to Riley, "It's not bad."

"No tank tops," Riley said, "I read your school's dress code."

Lorelei huffs a frustrated sigh and grabs the black hoodie. And then was grabbing her lunch and backpack. Next was Grace. Grace was wearing a My Little Pony pink shirt, rainbow tights, a purple skirt, and two different colored shoes; one red and the other pink.

Riley looks at Grace, "You sure you want to wear that to school, kiddo?" She asks.

Grace nods at Riley, "You said I could pick today." She said.

Riley nods and messes with Grace's hair, "I did, didn't I."

Grace goes and grabs her backpack like Lorelei, who was at this point texting on her phone. Riley moved from the girls to the hallway.

"Yo! Halstead!" Riley yells.

Coming to view was her doctor boyfriend, "Sorry- Sorry!"

"Come on," Riley said, "We'll all be late."

Riley was motioning the kids and Will out, however Will paused at the door.

"Forgetting something?" He asks.

Riley gives him a puzzled look, "What?"

He points down at the table by the door, sitting on the top of the table was her holster for her gun with the gun in it as well as a CPD police badge.

"Oh- Right." Riley grabbed the holster and put it on her pants and then hesitated to grab the badge.

"Riley?" Will asks.

She shakes her head and grabs the badge, "Nothing."

Riley pulls up at the high school for Lorelei. Lorelei climbed out of the car and waved goodbye, only to soon be swept up by her new friends. Riley had noted that Lorelei was a bit upset leaving Craig and Mac, however, she allows the two over every now and then.

Next stop was the elementary school, Grace gave Riley a kiss on the cheek and ran out of the car. Riley couldn't help but smile watching this and then drove off in the direction of the district.

"I'll pick the girls up tonight, Riley." Will said, "My shift has been changed since- you know."

Riley nods, "And so has mine."
