Riley woke up that Saturday morning. She looked at her alarm clock, she woke up two hours before her alarm. She laid back on her bed and looked at the ceiling.
Her dad was discharged from the hospital, she heard from Will. Riley didn't see him off or tried to find him. She was done trying to help him out if he was just going to use her.
Groaning, she got up from her bed. She walked from her bed to her bathroom next to her apartment bedroom. She stared at the reflection. Messy hair and a slight notice of dark circles. Deciding to take a shower, she grabbed clothes for work.
After her shower, she stepped out of the bathroom dressed in an orange with white and black paint like splats on it, blue skinny jeans, and black boots. She brushed her hair and decided to leave it alone, as she put on some makeup.
She grabbed a black jacket and then grabbed her keys and purse by the door. As Riley walked out of her apartment complex, she passed a few neighbors. An elderly couple waved at her, and a few others greeted her.
As Riley stepped out, she decided she was going to stop at the small diner across the street from her apartment building, however as she walked across the street, she heard a scream.
"Someone is going to jump!"
"Oh my god!"
Riley turns to see standing on the edge of a bridge was a young twenty something female. Riley didn't know what she was doing, she just ran in that direction.
Upon reaching the girl hanging onto the ledge, there was a crowd already but a few feet away. Riley ran over, hearing people shout and freak out.
"Someone call 9-1-1!" Riley yells.
As Riley reached the edge, it was at this moment the young girl looks at her. Her eyes widen upon seeing Riley.
"Stay back!" She yells.
This African American girl had short black hair, brown eyes, dark skin, and her clothes were torn. She looked to have been assaulted or worst.
"Okay," Riley said, "I'm Riley and I'd like to help you."
"Help me? Help me! Ha!" The girl yells.
Riley slowly took a step without the girl noticing, "What's your name?"
The girl glanced at Riley, "Emma."
"Okay, Emma, can you tell me why you're hanging onto that railing?" Riley asks.
"Because I want to die!" Emma yells.
Riley hears in the distance sirens. Firetrucks, ambulance, and police cars. Riley stays put and wanted to keep Emma talking. She knew if Emma jumped from the bridge if the fall didn't kill her, she'd be in serious pain afterwards.
"What happened to you? Your clothes are torn." Riley spoke.
Emma glanced at Riley, "It doesn't matter!"
"Yes it does, Emma. Were you raped?" Riley asks.
Tears sliding down Emma's face confirmed Riley's theory. Riley watched Emma hold onto the railing tighter and tighter as the sirens were closer.
