AN: Wow two updates in the same month! Hope you enjoy!
'How did i get here,' Hiccup thought as he shuffled his body on the couch trying to get comfortable. It was about 5 inches shorter than Hiccup's body so his legs hung over the edge and the leather stuck to his skin. The blue leather squeaked in protest and his body flopped into a defeated position.
"I hate this couch," he said.
He stared up at the ceiling fan wishing that it was the one in his bedroom, it wasn't fair. Why did Merida get to have the bed after an argument? It was her fault anyway, shouldn't he get the bed?
Hiccup glared up at the taunting fan and sat up. He rubbed his eyes and glanced at the clock on the wall, but it wasn't there. In it's place was a big stack of moving boxes. Hiccup picked up his phone and it read 3:07am and he had work in about 5 hours.
"This is ridiculous," he said to himself and started walking to his bedroom door.
He drew his fist in the air about to knock, but hesitated. Merida was very good at arguing and he wasn't sure if he had the energy to go for round two. He knew he would have to try to play to her ego which was something he was not in the mood to do. It was her fault anyway. Hiccup shook his head and knocked on the door. It was returned with silence.
He sighed, "Merida this is ridiculous, I am not sleeping on that couch,"
Still no response was given from the other side of the door.
"Merida!" he raised his voice, "This is ridiculous you're the one who told me you wanted to move. This is what you wanted."
The door swung open in a fury and Merida stood in it's place. Her eyes filled with anger and fatigue. She gripped the belt of her blue robe and tied it furiously "This is not my fault, you made a decision that was not yours to make!"
"It was mine to make it's my job!" Hiccup argued back.
"And I'm your wife! How the hell do you think this doesn't effect me?"
"You said you wanted to move Mer, this gave us the opportunity!" he replied.
" I said I wanted to move to a bigger place, not across the country!" she shouted
"You love the east coast! We went there last summer and you couldn't stop talking about Boston,"
"Hiccup that doesn't mean I wanted to move there!"
"Then what do you want!?"
"I want my husband to tell me about a job that uproots our lives before taking it!" Merida yelled, and turned away from her husband.
She wiped the tears brimming her eyes trying to remain calm. Her anger was telling her to fight back but her tiredness was telling her just to give up. Her hands began to shake as she tried not to say something she'd regret. "You didn't even ask me, you just took the job. I know what I said, but you should've asked me,"
"I thought you would be excited and surprised! You're all about new adventures and you don't even like California that much."
"My family is here Hiccup," she said and turned around to face him.
"My mum, my dad, my brothers, our friends! Our whole life is here and you thought I would be excited because I wouldn't have to deal with LA traffic?"
"I did," Hiccup argued.
"What?"
"My dad, I was his only kid, my mom was gone, and I traveled hundreds of miles to find something new. I regretted it at first, but then I met you, and started being good at my job, I built a life for myself and I never regret that decision."
"But it's not just you anymore. I'm your wife, we have to be in this together, we need to make these decisions together,"
She stared up at him with no anger in her eyes only hurt, "I just...I just wished you talked to me first,"
Hiccup pulled her into his arms as she cried on his shoulder, he stroked her messy hair and waited for her to calm down. She wasn't angry for him wanting to move, she was hurt that he didn't consider her feelings towards moving. She had grown up here, and she was right her whole family was here. She loved the east coast, she had said she wanted to move, these things are all true, but she didn't say I want to move to Boston in three months. He should've asked her.
"I'm sorry, I know you want to move there, I don't want to stop us, but I just wasn't prepared to leave everything so soon and so fast," she said through her sobs.
"No you're right too, I shouldn't have expected you to uproot your whole life. I'm sorry," Hiccup stated. He pulled away from her and looked at her sweetly. "I'm not used to this, it's no excuse, but I'm trying to learn how to figure this out. My mom died when I was so young, I was used to my dad just making decisions on his own. We don't have to move, I'll call my boss tomorrow,"
"Can I just think about it for a little while? It's not that I don't want to move it's just I need to think things over," she replied.
"Of course, as long as I can come back to bed," he joked
She smiled and shook her head, "Yes, that couch is awful,"
"So awful," he smiled.
