A/N: Oops, I goofed and forgot to post this one! :O SashaL goofed last time, so I guess it was only a matter of time before I did, too. xD So here's an out of order chapter where it should be. Enjoy :P
The teacher, whom the boys had discovered was called Ms Kwan, entered the room with an imperious gaze over the students who dutifully rose to their feet.
"Good morning, class," she said, her gaze flickering over each face with cool indifference. "Recite the Fire Nation oath."
The class turned to the larger-than-life portrait of Ozai, which dominated the rear wall of the class and bowed. They began reciting while Aang scrambled to his feet. Mangetsu was already bowed, though his jaw was clenched so tightly no words left his lips. Aang awkwardly looked around, trying to follow along with the others.
"My life, I give to my country. With my hands, I fight for Fire Lord Ozai and our forefathers before him..."
"Fire Lord... forefathers...." Aang glanced at Mangetsu, who remained silent, quirking his eyebrow at the blonde boy.
"With my mind, I seek ways to better my country, and with my feet..."
"Firebenders... Fire Lord... blah, blah, blah..." Aang desperately tried to follow along and get Mangetsu to join, but the other boy would not speak the oath or even attempt it.
Naturally, the other students gave in to helpless giggles and were unable to complete the oath. Somehow, this meant that the oath was done, and they all turned around and sat down while Ms Kwan scowled at Aang.
She stood up and struck the open book before her to emphasise her irritation.
"Since it's obviously hilarious to mock our national oath, we'll begin with a pop quiz on our Great March of Civilization," she said sternly.
The class groaned, pulling up a pen and paper to prepare to take the quiz. Mangetsu idly doodled on his paper as everyone settled in to start.
"Question one: What year did Fire Lord Sozin battle the Air Nation Army?"
Aang raised his hand, earning a suspicious look from the teacher and a curious glance from Mangetsu.
"Kuzon?"
He stood up. "Is that a trick question? The Air Nomads didn't have a formal military. Sozin defeated them by ambush."
The class stared, open-mouthed at Aang.
"Well," Ms Kwan said, flustered. "I don't know how you could possibly know more than our national history book. Unless you were there a hundred years ago."
Aang gave a nervous chuckle and sat down. "I'll just write down my best guess."
Mangetsu raised his hand, earning a perplexed look from everyone.
"Mangetsu?"
"I've never heard of an Air Nation Army," he said, not bothering to stand up. "Back in the colonies, we hear that the Air Nomads were a pacifist nation. Why would pacifists have an army?"
Again, the class stared in open-mouthed awe. Ms Kwan turned red.
"Go stand outside, and think about the heresy you've spoken today!"
Mangetsu shrugged. He lazily made his way out of the class, yawning as he went.
Once History was done and dusted, Aang and Mangetsu were seated within an amateur band, with a fat man standing before a music stand. Aang had been given a Tsungi horn, and Mangetsu... had been given a triangle. He was so enthusiastic about his choice; they had to slow down the whole band just for him.
