Lisa POV
"What's the address again?" Louis asked from the drivers seat to my right.
"I don't know the exact address, but I know it's on Caroline Street, and it's Legacy Church, it shouldn't be that hard to find," I told him.
We were visiting my hometown, to see my family and friends that are at the church. They haven't started service yet, Louis and I came quite early so I could see my close friends here. My parents usually come really early with Macy and Zoe, so they should be there already.
"Oh, found it," he said and pulled into a parking space.
I got out and smoothed out my floral dress and began walking to the front door. Louis followed and tripped once, causing me to laugh.
He began rubbing the back of his neck, which I took as nervousness.
"What's up?" I asked him but then realized something.
He's meeting my parents.
He's meeting my parents.
He's meeting my parents.
I didn't think this through, I guess I was just so excited to be visiting my family for Thanksgiving.
"Just a little nervous about what they'd think, especially if they found out about the contract," he said.
Hearing about that fucking contract hurt, it reminded me that that's the only reason he even pays attention to me.
I walked in, a little more nervous then before, and was directly engulfed in a hug from my best friend from this church, Megan.
"Lisa! I missed you so much!" she said as she let go. When she saw my face, her eyes saddened.
"Todd's over there, if you want to see him," she said quietly. Todd was the pastor at Legacy, and he never liked being called 'Pastor Todd' or 'Father Todd' or anything like that, so he had us call him Todd, just Todd.
I walked up to him, and when I turned around to see if Louis was still behind me, I saw that he was signing something and taking a picture with a couple fans.
I kept waking towards Todd, when I was stopped by Megan's sister, who also happened to be a great friend of mine, Lorene.
"You're back!" she said excitedly while hugging me tightly.
"And, you never told me you were dating a celebrity! I thought I saw a familiar face in the magazines!" she said.
"I know! I'm really happy, I think I finally found the right one, and not just because he's famous and rich," I said. And I meant it.
"I'm gonna go talk to Todd, say hi," I said and she nodded before waking away.
I walked up behind him and covered his eyes.
"Guess who," I said.
"Huh, gee. That's difficult. Is it... Curt?" he guessed before turning around, with a huge smile on his face.
"Lisa! Is that really you? I thought that college would have swallowed you whole by now," he said and I giggled.
"Yup, it's difficult. But, Aryanna and Louis are keeping me whole, I'll never be able to thank either of them enough for that," I said and he looked confused.
"Who's Louis?" he asked and I pointed to the guy jogging towards us.
"My boyfriend for, I don't know, almost four months now...?" I said, more as a question than a statement.
"I'll give him the ol' father talk," he said.
"I couldn't agree more, but shouldn't my actual father do that? Where is he, anyways?" I asked and his features saddened.
"You don't know what happened?" he asked in a voice just above a whisper.
"No, I haven't," I said back, a little anxious as to what he was going to say.
"About a month ago, your family was driving up to visit your grandma, for she was ill with cancer, stage four. As you remember, here in Lancaster, there was a snow storm last month. While your family, your mom, dad, Macy and Zoella, were up driving on the mountain, a car swerved around the corner and their car slipped on the ice, and, well..." he didn't finish, but my eyes were already filled with tears.
"Well, what?" I asked and he looked hesitant, but eventually gave in.
"The accident was very serious, I hope you know that," he said.
"Okay, go on. Finish," I said, growing impatient and scared at the same time.
"Your family is, well, they have passed on," he said as his own eyes grew watery.
"What? No, you're joking," I told him, the tears threatening to spill at any given moment.
Louis put his hand on my shoulder in a way to comfort me.
"Unfortunately, I'm not," he said.
"Everyone? Even Mace and Zoe?" I asked and people started filing into the church and taking their seats, but Todd, Louis, and I were still up front.
"Yes, Lisa. I'm so, very sorry," he said, but it sounded faint, as did every other noise around me. The last thing I remember at that moment was falling into someone's arms, for my knees had become weak from all the information I was told.
*****
"It's not fair," I sobbed into Louis' shoulder.
I am an emotional train wreck. The four people, who I had dreaded leaving in the first place, were gone, and I wouldn't see them for a while.
The service is still going on, but Louis took me outside to calm down.
"I know, I'm so sorry," he said and rubbed circles on my back.
"Why them? I mean, they're good people! They rarely sin, rarely fight, never curse. I'm their terrible excuse since I do all three of those things, but it's just, I don't know, hard, I guess," I said and wiped away the last tear.
"I look creepy, my makeup is messed up. Isn't it?" I asked Louis and he laughed before nodding.
"Nothing that can't be fixed," he said and lead me to the bathroom. I went inside and wiped away the smudged mascara before applying a new, small layer from the one I keep in my purse.
"I don't know why I put more on, I'm gonna end up crying again," I said and he pulled me in for a hug.
"I know it seems so hard now, but it will get better. Even though they're gone, I'm still here. And even though they loved you with all their hearts, doesn't mean they still don't. They're up there, looking down on you, wishing you the best of luck. And you're not a terrible excuse, I think they did a pretty good job with you. I mean, you still have your friends here that love you, Aryanna and Beth who love you, and me," he paused. "And I love you," he said and I widened my eyes.
"What?" I asked, surprised.
"Yes, I'm in love with you, Lisa,"
