Chapter 32

Gabrielle’s POV

Last night after my dad came home, I had a conversation with him in the kitchen while we were eating our late dinner. Considering what we talked about, how he phrased things, and the tone of his voice, I would say that I’m starting to get back on his good side.

I wasn’t sure if I was every completely off his good side and onto his bad side, but either way things are beginning to seem to go back to normal between us. He doesn’t seems as suspicious by me as he did mostly last week, and he wasn’t acting weird or failing at subtly asking me questions trying to get me to spill information about my life that he wasn’t sure if he knew fully about. I decided to wait though on asking him for my phone back.

Even though he’s had it for over a week and it didn’t seem like I was in much trouble anymore, I was still nervous to bring the topic up. When I was talking to Harry about my dad the other day when he came over, he kept telling me just to straight up ask for my phone back because as far as my dad knows, I didn’t do anything. I tried to explain to Harry how my dad always told me that life is a process and you have to carefully work your way up to what you want.

Harry didn’t understand and he told me to just ask for my damn phone back because he hated the whole home phone communication and not being able to text me at all. I had told him he just needed to be patient with it all and he just went ahead and agreed even though I knew he wasn’t happy about it. I had gotten up earlier than usual this morning because Bella had called me back later that night and told me what time she wanted to come pick me up for the coffee shop.

Of course since my dad was there listening, he wanted me to pick an earlier time to have her come pick me up so he could see that I really was going to the coffee shop with Bella and not someone else. He didn’t say that that was the exact reason that he wanted me to pick an early time, but I knew it was. I had told Bella the time that my dad had approved for me, and even though she complained about how early that was, I tried my best to let her know I’d explain later without my dad knowing.

She had finally went ahead and agreed, so now here was up in my room getting dressed before heading downstairs where I knew my dad already was, ready and everything, just waiting for me to come down to the kitchen and for Bella to come pick me up so he could leave for work. I decided just to keep my outfit simple for right now since I was going to have plenty of time when I got back to get ready for dinner at Harry’s house.

See at first I wasn’t sure how much time I was going to have because I didn’t know when Bella and I were going to go to the coffee shop, but I thought I was going to be a bit later than what it ended up to be. Either way I knew I was going to have at least a few hours, but who knows I could spend over half of that time just deciding on what shirt to wear.

Okay I probably wouldn’t take that long to just pick a shirt, but it would probably take that long to put together an outfit that I thought would be presentable for the dinner. I settled on just jeans and a plain shirt for right now, and by the time I had finished my makeup and hair, brushed my teeth and all that, I checked the time and saw that I still had about fifteen more minutes until Bella was supposed to come get me. I went ahead and headed downstairs and joined my dad watching the news in the living room.

“Good morning,” I said as I sat down next to him.

“Morning,” he said back, eyes still glued to the TV.

“Anything good?” I asked him, referring to if there were any good or interesting news stories on the channel this morning.

“Nope, it’s all just junk. I swear they’re just making stuff up now because real news isn’t interesting enough for them anymore,” he complained.
