Chapter 36
Gabrielle’s POV
Harry had insisted that we stay a bit longer and help his aunt clean up the kitchen a bit. He had completely ignored his aunt’s pleas to just let her do it herself so he could get me home. I had finally went ahead and gave in and helped Harry because I knew he wasn’t going to listen to his aunt. I did have a little extra time and it was just going to take longer if Harry was just doing it by himself.
Harry’s aunt finally got him out of the kitchen and stopped him from cleaning up when she convinced him that he and I both would end up meeting each other’s family members tonight if we didn’t hurry up and leave to get back to my house before my dad got there. I said bye to his aunt and Ben, since he had come out of us room to wait for his mom to tuck him into bed.
“So that went pretty well, huh?” Harry said as we walked out of his aunt’s house and to the driveway where his car was.
“Yeah, surprisingly it did,” I agreed.
“I didn’t think it would turn out like that, but I guess it was because I just kept imaging the worst case scenario to happen. She was pretty calm and cool about it though, I mean at first she was pretty shocked and a bit mad, but she came around,” Harry said, and I just nodded, not really sure what to say now. Harry an I both got into his car once he unlocked it, and then he back out of the driveway and headed out of his aunt’s neighborhood and began to drive to mine. The first couple minutes of the car ride were pretty silent, as they usually were, but I soon heard Harry clear his throat like he usually did before he was about to speak.
“So,” he began, and I was right that he now had something to say.
“I was thinking about tonight, and when my aunt had spoke with me in the living room for a bit when we first got to the house,”
“What about it? What did she say anyway?” I asked, and when he looked over at me for a second, I realized that I had interrupted.
“Sorry, go on,”
“So when I was talking with her, she basically told me that she wasn’t mad about our relationship, she was just upset that I hadn’t told her about it. So now I’ve been feeling pretty bad that I hadn’t told her, even though I knew it was best that I didn’t until now, she was still so supportive of me. Even though she was almost to the point of pressuring me for information, she just wanted to be apart of my life because before all she had was Ben because all her family live back in England,” he told me.
I did feel some sympathy for him, because I felt bad about keeping this from her too, but it was best that we hadn’t told her until we pretty much had to. We didn’t know that she was going to react the way she did, if we did know I would’ve been okay with telling her a long time ago.
So I wanted to tell him that he really shouldn’t feel that bad about it because he’s only feeling bad about not telling her right now because he now knows that she is okay with it all. I knew that I shouldn’t say that though and that I should just keep my mouth shut about it right now because I knew it was going to cause an argument if I did.
“Is that all you wanted to say, or is there more?” I asked him because I just remembered that I needed to tell him about what Bella had said to me earlier, but I didn’t want to start a new conversation if he wasn’t done with the one he had already started. Well technically it wasn’t really a conversation, it was just him talking, but still. “Well what I wanted to say was, that I think we should tell your dad about us,”
“You think what?” I said, probably a bit to loud since I noticed him jump in his seat a bit.
“I know you heard what I said,” he told me.
