I walk down the hallway, almost dragging my feet. It has already been two weeks after that incident and I still can't accept and forgive myself for what had happen. It has been my total fault. I was the root cause of all of this. I'm hopelessly tangled in the mess I am in, when Jace tried to help but ended up twisted with me in the mess. I tried to ran away, hoping not to get anymore casualty but Jayson came in, tried to help but he also failed. I got two wonderful guys, trapped in this black hole I am in, I felt guilty and all, so when I saw the opportunity to save one of these two guys, the chance to let go and free one of them, destiny played with me again.

I stopped in front of a door.

"Room 301."

I took a deep breath as I knocked and held on the door knob. I readied a smile as I opened the door and went inside.

"Hey." I called on to him.

I placed the fruit basket I am carrying in the nearby table.

"I brought fruits, I added more mangoes since I know you liked them." I said as I approached him on his bed.

"Philippine mangoes?" He asked.

I smiled as I nodded.

"As you requested." I said as I leaned to kiss him on the cheeks. "I even brought you new books to read."

I smiled as he cringe his nose.

"You're serious about converting me into a book worm?"

"What? It's better to read a book than sulk here doing nothing than disturbing your nurses every time."

He shrugged.

"It was their job anyway."

"Ehem. I think you forgot your best friend is a nurse. How would you feel if my patient would do to me what you're doing with your nurses?"

He paused for a while then shrugged.

"Fine. I'll stop." He said finally giving in.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

"No more calling Nurse Jackie for things like switching the television channel?"

"Yeah. No more things like that. I promise."

I smiled.

"Do you want to eat mango?" I asked as I walked towards the fruit basket.

"Yes please."

I peeled and sliced the mango and placed it in a plate and gave it to him.

He pressed a button in his bed so he could eat.

I watched him intently as he stabbed the sliced fruit and shoved it to his mouth. I can't help but feel sorry for my best friend.

"I'm sorry Jayson." I silently apologized.

Jayson has been moderately to severely beaten. He has broken a few bones including his nose and left foot. Two weeks after that incident, most of his bruises and wounds got healed already but he is still recovering. He still got to wear cast in his left foot.

I felt terribly guilty so I try my best to visit him everyday. I convinced him to transfer to the hospital I am working so I can get to visit him easier. So far, Jayson has been recovering quite fast, in which I am so thankful about. The guys who beat him also got arrested so I think it kind of helped him get more relaxed and focus more on recovering.

"What?" He asked as he noticed me staring.

I brushed off the sadness in my eyes as I smile.

"Nothing. Oh I forgot to give you something. Wait for me." I said as I got up and walked towards the door.

I hurriedly grabbed the object from the nearby nurse station. Nurse Jackie saw me and I mouthed a quick "I already told him" in which she smiled. I felt her relief. Jayson has been a total stubborn lately and he only follows what I asked him to. I am thankful Nurse Jackie has long patience.

I returned and peeked inside the room, still holding the object outside the room.

"Close your eyes first." I instructed him.

He placed the plate in his bedside table and closed his eyes.

"No peeking!"

"Okay." He said.

I carefully walked inside the room bringing the object close to him.

"Held out your hand with your eyes still closed." I told him.

He held his hands out as I instructed.

I placed the object in his hands.

He opened his eyes. Surprise was clear in his face.

I bought him a new guitar so he would not get bored while recovering inside the hospital.

"Thank you Dani." He smiled at me from ear to ear.

"No problem Jayson. Just be an obedient patient and focus on recovering okay?" I smiled as I hugged him.

"Yeah I promise." he said as he hugged me back.

For the past hours, Jayson kept playing his new guitar. He sang me songs as I join him in few. Midnight pass, I finally convinced him to sleep. I waited another hour as I made sure he was already asleep. I left a note in his guitar telling him I already left and will come back tomorrow after my shift. I sliced another mango and placed it in the small fridge near him so he can eat it tomorrow. After setting everything for him, I kissed him lightly on his forehead and quietly went out of the room.
