sorry, my train of thought derailed
we could be the greatest love story
this world has ever known
our hearts are laced together
like an intersection of broken dreams
and broken families
we may not be siblings or soulmates
but i swear we come from the same atom
when the world was created
we both hold pieces in our hearts
pieces of want
and need
and pieces of broken "families"
we both stare at ourselves in the mirror
stare ourselves in the eyes and say
i wish i wasn't alive
we both understand
our own mortality
yet we are not afraid
not because we have each other
or some other bullshit
but because we've faced far worse
and this is but child's play
and it's in those moments between our laughter
in those moments between heartbeats
those moments between noise
it's in those moments when we stop laughing
and just stare at each other in the eyes
and the stars paused their shining
the sun dulled its heat
and the spotlight was put on the moon
and in the extensive noise of the cafeteria
it all suddenly shuts out
no one else exists
no one else is here
but us
and the moonlight shines down on us
to show to the heavens, to show to the galaxy
to show to the universe, to show to the stars
these broken souls
these intertwined, broken souls
that despite it all, are still here.
it's in those moments between laughter
and we stare into each other's eyes
that our physical forms disappear
these two broken souls
they're both damaged
they're both tainted
they're both hurt
cut the poetry.
they're both scared
they're both just waiting out their time
they're both open to each other
there is no barrier
there are no walls around their hearts
because it is in those moments between laughter
that we look at one another and say,
i know, i'm tired too.
these moments between vulnerability
when we say those rebellious words
the words that could put us tighter together
or tear apart
those words that could destroy us
or create us
those words that exposes our weakness
each other
those words that show the world
that these two humans
are saying,
if we cannot move heaven,
we will raise hell.
for though these words could damn us
we say it with exhaustion in our soul
and defiance in our eyes
in our eyes, they speak
they say
i dare you
i dare you to try and ta—
i am speaking to you and you only now.
i dare you
i fucking dare you
to try and take this person away from me
for i understand we are damned
i know his soul is blue and mine is red
and that is why i know
how earth shuddering it is when i speak the words,
i trust you.
i know the earth gasped
i know the stars watched
i know the universe halted for a moment
i know this
because when those words were said,
the sky illuminated in hues of purple and lilac
and violet and indigo and fuchsia and magenta
it shone in the brilliant color of us
and it said
it said,
"take these two away from each other
and watch that void in their hearts
become a black hole.
for if they are going down
they will take this universe with them."
because it's like taking the stars from the night
and the moon from the tides.
who would ever dare?
a part of me hopes it dares
i want to show you what i am capable of
i want to show you what we are capable of
i want to show you
that despite the absolute shit you've given us
we will not back down.
