the poet

what does it take
for someone to be deemed
inhuman?

what's the body capacity?
the heart?
the mind?

i would say
that it depends
on how much damage you do.

because he killed a girl once
oh, mutilated her

you see, these are the things he stole from her—
her body,
her heart,
her mind.

he tied little strings to her wrists
her ankles
and one thick one
around her throat
and don't forget
the thing he made her shut up with
don't forget
what made her body no longer hers
it was his to control
not hers, never hers.

he saw her heart from afar
and his mouth watered
no, foamed
and he pounced.
as he got closer, that little thing
came into vision
that string-looking thing
oh.
that's where her heart as been stitched.
and he grabbed it by both hands
and pulled.
and she unraveled so easily for him
like a ball of yarn.

and then, he moved the final piece on the board.
he sunk his fangs
talons
claws
teeth
into her mind
sunk it so deep into
that pulling them out
would kill her.
for those claws
were keeping the blood from bursting
keeping the dam from blowing
keeping the volcano from erupting.
he said, she said
he did, she did
monkey say monkey do
master say puppet do.
checkmate.

because you see, he stole those things from her—
her mind
her body
her soul.
he never returned them
he keeps them in a shiny trophy case
baby's first kill.
other trophies and awards litter the same area
dust collecting
but none
oh, none
could ever triumph
his first.

because you see, that trophy case will be blown to smithereens.
and she will have his head
planted on her wall,
right above her bed.

drip, drip
onto her forehead every night.
checkmate indeed.
demon blood dripping into her mouth,
we saw what happened to sam.

that boy created this monster
ironic, isn't it?

has it clicked in your head, yet?

he stole these things from her
and she is coming to take them back.

check-fucking-mate, ethan.

check
mate.

but you see, that's not where it ends.
here's the truth:
he was just a boy that she fell in love with
who didn't love her back.

funny isn't it
how much that can fuck up a person.

funny isn't it
how they tell you
a storm doesn't last forever.

that's cute.
do you know how many cities have been utterly destroyed
because of one storm?
do you know the body count?
that's cute.
that's cute.

so what does it take for someone to be deemed inhuman?
it takes for them to be a poet.

it takes the person who created the monster
for whoever created the monster
created the poet
