New Beginnings
Annie stopped Brody on his way out the door.
"Won't you stay and talk some more?"
He shook his head. "Sorry, no can do.
I'm looking for Buck and Lou.
You haven't seen them...have you?"
Annie tried to stall, to get him to stay.
But he ended the conversation with a
"Good day."
He also mentioned that she
might want to see
if Bruce had anything more to say.
Then he walked away.
Annie watched him go,
feeling awfully low.
"I should give Bruce a chance, I guess,
but what if he goes and leaves me love-less?
Before I do that, I'll go to see
If I can get a job from CG."
She had to sweet-talk her way past a watchful horse,
But she was good at that, of course.
CG looked her over and said, "Fine.
I'll need another reporter since it's election time.
Try to keep up with the candidates,
Stay out of trouble, and you'll do great."
She went back to the Doc's and walked up to the bed,
where Bruce was waiting. He said,
"Annie, I wasn't done. I left you,
but I sure as hell didn't forget you.
Give me another chance and you'll see,
I'm not the same. There's a new me."
Annie hesitated. "Bruce...I don't know if I can.
It's been so long since I was able to trust a man.
I'll take care of you, but I swear if you
stray or leave again...we're through."
