The Answer
I came in from singing
To get a bite
Gave AJ a kiss
He seemed nervous tonight.
He made dinner
Told me to have a seat
Everything was delicious
He even made brownies...
my favorite treat.
After dinner
He had a surprise
The most beautiful box
I'd ever seen with my eyes
"It's a puzzlebox you see."
And he handed it to me
Try as I may
Try as I might
No matter what I did
It stayed sealed up tight.
AJ offered to show me how
But I was too determined now
Once again though I failed
"Maybe I should use a hatchet,"
I wailed.
AJ's eyes opened wide
"It was my Mother's, Loren,
And I'd be honored if you kept it safe."
His panic he could not hide.
I looked down at the box in my hand
Having lost my own Mother
I could totally understand
For such a memory cannot be replaced.
I handed it back but
AJ had this look on his face
He invited me for walk
Neither of us did talk
We got to our hill
The night held a chill
AJ said, "Come sit with me."
And I did beneath the tree.
Together we watched the sun
The box reappeared and he
Showed me how it came undone
My eyes opened with surprise
At the treasure it held inside
But nothing could surprise me more
Then what this night held in store.
AJ asked me to be his wife.
I couldn't think of a better way
To spend my life
But I opened my mouth to speak
And nothing would come
but a giggle and squeak.
AJ, so nervous was he,
"Loren, all this serious asking is killing me.
I've faced death one too many times before
Please answer me,
I don't know if I can take anymore."
"You... You..." the words would not come
But I knew something must be done
So I tackled him
Smothering him in kisses.
He answered each kiss
And said "I gather this
is your way of saying, Yes?"
How could he not guess?
"Yes! You silly man.
How can you doubt?
A Million time YES!!!!"
I did shout.
He pulled me into his embrace
Love and joy shown on his face.
"It's a Yes!!! A big YES!!!
I love you, Loren Order!"
"May I" he held the bangle
In his hands and my eyes
Began to water.
"You may and I so wish you would."
He slipped the bangle on my wrist.
I gave him another kiss
Enjoying this rare moment were
Everything was perfect and good.
