The Game is Afoot
On her way to get something to eat,
Annie met Shamus in the street.
They started talking about Brody,
and Shamus pointed her in his direction.
Annie smiled and walked his way,
determined to try to win his affection.
She asked him to walk her to the café;
He did, but wasn't inclined to stay.
Lou ran up and wanted to drag him away,
but Annie fibbed and said he'd agreed to stay.
Lou looked hurt, and let them be.
Brody pulled her closer.
"What's your game, Annie?
I'm a person, not a pawn.
If you think I'm falling for it, you're wrong."
Annie blustered and bluffed,
"You've got it wrong, you know!"
Brody took her in his arms,
and kissed her hard and slow.
Then he walked away.
Annie didn't know what to say.
"Come back here, Brody Delaney!"
"Let go of my sleeve, Annie!
You got what you wanted; I gave you a kiss!
I hope it was enough to get you out of this
Mess you're in with Shamus. You should
get away while you can. The man is no good."
"You...you did that for me?
You thought I was in trouble?" whispered Annie.
Now Brody knew she wasn't in trouble,
But now he thought Shamus was trying to double-
cross him and get him out of the way.
Well, not if he had his say.
He stormed away.
