There is no good news here.
Cept that Hugh is alive.
Thanks to Dusty and 3Gunn
Buckle'n down into the long ride.
They collected all they would need from the bakery 'n doc.
And rode fast 'n hard... they didn't stop.
From the pasture to the front steps
Daisy pulled her man home
And Dusty and the Sheriff spent half a day on the road.
When the men got there
They got Hugh in his bed
The Sheriff used Miss Myna's muffins
And sewed him up with thread.
Dixie made soup, to try 'n help Hugh sleep.
But we all could see, his wounds were more than skin deep.
Yesterday, AJ 'n Loren told Dixie
That they planned to take
Hugh a basket of food
And flowers so pretty.
Quickly! Dixie sent Sarah Rose to the ranch with a note
Hope' 'n Dusty could save Hugh's dignity.
The note told Dusty what was in store
And asked him to dress Hugh and get him on the porch.
It said the forge could get by for one more day.
With the coal that was left
She could still fashion shoes
So, at the ranch, she asked him to stay.
No word from Washington,
No word from Virginia,
But Dixie knows she can't
Give into hysteria.
