The welcome she received
left her astounded
by the folks in BG
she seemed surrounded
The library was real
her dream come true
now she had to get busy
so much to do
There was even talk
of her teachin' a school
readin' and writin'
and the Golden Rule
She'd never taught little children
but that would be fine
and if that happened
she'd need another sign
Unloaded her wagon
took the books all inside
then placed them on shelves
with a mother's pride
There were books on everything
from A to Zed
about imagination and history
just waiting to be read
Harriet straightened her desk
added a vase of cut flowers
then wrote up a sign
stating the library hours
