New Town, Same Game

Seven days by train, just to be safe

He knew a decision has to me made

Next town or the next, maybe the fifth

Still confused as to which is which

"Next town, name?" He wrote the conductor,

"Busted Gulch" the old man answered.

He gave the conductor an affirmative nod,

Wrote again, "That's where I get off."

He set foot at the Stop Go station

And found himself a bustling town

He got a room in Tent City so cheap

He had enough money to splurge for a week

But he knew he must put his priorities first,

Getting a job was top of his list

He roamed the town looking for a post

Whatever it is, he must find work

He found one by the General Store

"Help Wanted, see Mr Manny Ger."

He didn't waste a second, in he went

To see Mr Ger for his application.

He was quite nervous, he had to admit

Getting a job's not easy when you're mute

Manny Ger looked him squarely in the eye,

"If you can follow instructions, you can apply."

He got hired on the spot

He couldn't believe his luck

Now, that is one thing to check off his list,

Time to move on to the next.

He surveyed the town to watch its citizens

Observed how comings and goings went

He took note of hotspots and buildings with more floors

Took note of windows, stairwells and doors.

Night came and he stayed in town,

Ate some noodles, and hung around

Strolled the streets to get hold of his bearings

Went home to rest for work next morning.

Job was easy, bagging groceries

What he looked forward to was making deliveries

Mr Ger sent him on one that morning,

Two fifty- pound sacks of coffee to the bakery.

He was met by the Chinese baker,

And was told to go through the back door.

"You must be new?" the baker asked.

He replied with an enthusiastic nod

"I'm JinLi, but call me AJ," said the baker,

Held out a hand and waited for an answer

He took out his notebook, quickly wrote,

"I'm Silenzio Gattuso, but call me Enzo."

AJ smiled, said it was nice meeting him,

Even invited him to sample a muffin

But Enzo refused, scribbled, "Work"

AJ understood and wrapped a muffin to go.

Enzo thanked him and smiled as he left,

One building down, a few more to inspect

He felt the excitement coursing through his veins,

Soon enough, Busted Gulch will learn his name.

"New town, Old name

The game remains the same

Jewels, trinkets and priceless heirloom

Let I, Il Gatto, spell their doom!"
