"The chef?" I found myself all but shouting, "I was kidnapped so I could be a cook?"
"Isn't it great? This operation has been going on for a day or two and there's been nothing decent to eat. I'm sure you're a fine cook." Selvig said waving for me to follow him as he started down the hall.
"No it's not great, Eric!" I said taking him by the shoulder and turning him to face me. Searching his face desperately I choked back tears, "I've been kidnapped, stolen away from my life, my family and friends, and that psycho Loki tried to brainwash me into being one of his minions. Just so I would be a cook! Nothing about this situation is great!"
My reaction didn't seem to faze Selvig in the least, "Oh, but you haven't even seen the kitchen yet! It's quite big. Come on; let me show you, I'm sure you'll like it!"
He started off again down the hall and, realizing that there was no getting through to him, I followed silently. Eric lead me down several hallways and back to the main room with the cube and scientists. Edging around the room, weaving between people, machines, and piles of boxes we then made our way to another hallway the branched off the left side of the main chamber. The two of us took a right, then a left at a four way fork. At the end of this short hallway was a big double door that swung open. Entering, Eric flicked on the lights to show me a large cafeteria filled with long, rectangular white tables lined with benches. The walls were made of large white bricks and were undecorated, the floor was smooth gray cement, and long rectangular lights flooded the cafeteria with harsh white light. In the back of the room was a long window like one would find at a public school which people would walk down with trays to get their food. A few feet to the side of this window stood a door that most likely led to the kitchen.
I followed Eric across the room and to the door of the kitchen where he insisted I go in first. Stepping into the room I turned on the lights and looked around what would be my new prison cell. Selvig had been right, it was a huge kitchen. On the left wall stood two huge ovens with stove tops, along with an old fryer, and what looked like some sort of machine that's surface space was like that of a griddle. The right wall contained a huge sink and a table space along with a huge cupboard supposedly for the tableware. Across the room from me, on the far wall were two large doors, a metal one that most likely lead to the refrigerator and freezer and a wooden one that probably lead to the pantry. In between these two doors were a few hooks that held some aprons and a slimmer door that was probably a little broom closet. To the left of the door, along the same wall the door to the kitchen was on, was a long metal table lined with drawers that most likely contained cookie sheets, muffin tins, cutting boards, measuring cups and spoons, hot pads, and other cooking utensils and doodads. On the counter was a mixer, a knife block with handles sticking out of it, and a huge toaster. Above the window was a round clock, on which I noticed that it was nine o'clock, whether it was morning or evening I knew not. The walls of the kitchen, wherever they were not blocked by any of these appliances and things, were laden with hanging spatulas, spoons, and whatnot.
"So. What do you think?" Eric asked excitedly, like I was supposed to be thrilled with the place.
So as not to pop his entranced bubble, because there was no getting through to him in this state, I forced a cheery smile onto my face and affirmed, "It's big."
"Yes it is and fully stocked! Is there anything else you're going to need, anything you see that's missing?" Eric asked looking around the room approvingly.
"Um. I'd have to look around a bit, but I do think I'm going to need a few things." I said trying to organize my thoughts, "Like a pen or pencil and a pad of paper. Nice sized paper, not a little sticky note pad or something like that. And when I was taken, I had a phone in my pocket. I don't know if it was lost at the alley I was snatched from or if they took it, but I'd like to have it back."
