Plan B was, of course, to eat. So pushing myself up off my bed I threw on the red tank top and tied my hair neatly into a braid. My nightmare had darn well left me sweating and the last thing I wanted was sleeves or my hair clinging to my neck. Taking the few steps from my room to the cafeteria door, I swung it open and flicked on the lights immediately before continuing to the kitchen. In the dead of the night everything seemed far too quiet, especially to my unsettled nerves, so I set my music to my playlist of songs from the musical Wicked. The music playing now I felt myself relax a bit as I went over to the pantry and got out a sack of potatoes.
Chopping up a couple of the spuds I shook my head at myself. I had not thought that the rush in the main room earlier that day had frightened me, but apparently something of it had. Why getting trampled to death? If I was to have a nightmare I had thought I would've had a nightmare about my... abilities or something to do with the up and coming invasion, but no, my subconscious had decided to torture me with being trampled to death instead. I needed comfort food since sleep was now out of the question, and nothing sounded better to me than my baked potato fries. Once the potatoes were chopped, lightly oiled, and in the oven, I turned my attention back to my pad and pen which were still sitting on the kitchen counter like they had been for the last couple of days. In a few minutes time I had described to my journal my latest bad dream, then sitting the pen down I sighed as I fluttered through the few empty pages I had left, maybe three or four more. Next I could, I'd ask for a new pad of paper, maybe in the morning.
For now; however, I had time to spare as I waited for my French fries to bake. So I let myself become entranced with the Wicked songs, singing along with the lyrics as 'Wonderful' came on allowing my voice to become slightly nasally as I sang along with the Wizard, followed by 'Popular' to which I giggled with Galinda, and I changed my tone with each character as I sang along with 'No One Mourns the Wicked'. Then one of my favorite Wicked songs came on, 'No Good Deed' in which Elphaba, who was just starting to become the Wicked Witch of the West, decided that she wasn't going to do another good thing because no matter how hard she tried, every good thing she did ended in disaster, including the deaths of some of her closest friends and family members. I took in a deep breath to shout out the name of Elphaba's love interest who had recently been taken away to be executed.
"Fiyeeeeeeeeeero! Eleka nomin nomin onchu onchu eleka nomin! Eleka nomin nomin, eleka...eleka.. ugh! What good is this chanting? I don't even know what I'm reading! I don't even know which trick I ought to try! Fiyero where are you? Already dead or bleeding? One more disaster I can add to my generous supply! No good deed goes unpunished; no act of charity goes unresented. No good deed goes unpunished, that's my new creed! My road of good intentions led where such roads always lead! No good deed goes unpunished!"
As the song continued I stepped into the fridge to find a bottle of ketchup, missing the part where Elphaba lists off the people who had been killed, including the name of her beloved. I re-entered the room and continued singing just as the next words were being sung, "One question haunts and hurts, too much, too much to mention. Was I really seeking good or just seeking attention? Is that all good deeds are when looked at with an ice cold eye? If that's all good deeds are, maybe that's the reason whyyyyyy- no good deed goes unpunished, all help urges should be circumvented! No good deed goes unpunished! Sure I meant well, but look at what well meant! Alright, enough, so be it then!"
I checked the progress of my fries as I let my voice grow low as I went on it a menacing, half spoken, half singsong voice, "Let all Oz be agreed, I'm wicked through and through since I cannot succeed, Fiyero, saving you! I promise no good deed will I attempt to do again! Ever again! No good deed will I do agaaaaaaain!"
