It must have been the days of little sleep that allowed me to conk out so quickly and sleep dreamlessly all throughout the night until the rough knock at my door woke me up. It was like being woken from the dead and my mind was numb as could be. Blinking away the sleep from my eyes I got up and slipped on the pair of jean capris and black t-shirt along with the black convers. In under ten minutes my hair was brushed and left down, my teeth were brushed, mascara had been applied, and I finished off the rest of my little routine for getting ready for the day. It was strange to me as I strolled into the cafeteria and down the rows of tables; I actually was starting to form a bit of a routine. My circumstances certainly weren't normal, but some of this was becoming the usual.
Setting my music to shuffle, I grabbed bags of bread, cartons of eggs, and several other more minor ingredients. To 'Radioactive' by Imagine Dragons I then whipped together an egg blend with lemon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of flour. Turning on the griddle I started dunking bread slices and placing them on the hot surface. Breakfast today was going to be French toast and as I waited for the first batch to cook I stepped into the freezer and found packages of sausage patties. French toast and sausage had sounded wonderful as soon as I woke up, so I decided to roll with it and churned out both of these foods until the line heating containers were filled with them. Just before six thirty I went around to the tables setting out bottles of maple syrup.
Placing the last bottle of syrup onto the last table I spun on the spot to start heading back to the kitchen when I heard a small, sticky, ripping sound and felt a little pulling pressure on my foot as I raised it. In disgust I slowly lifted my foot and saw that the shoe I had spun on now had a stretchy pink thread of gum attaching it to the floor. What dumbo just spits gum onto the floor and leaves it there? Some of these people were complete pigs! Hurrying away from the gum splotch, ignoring the sucky sound with each step of the gummy shoe, I strode into the kitchen and started cleaning off the bottom. Also in the process I made a decision to completely scour the cafeteria floor again even though I had done it only a day or two ago. It took quite a while to completely rid my convers of bubblegum, and during that time people started coming in and going down the food line. Once my shoe was clean, however, I kept the French toast and sausages coming until I knew I had more than enough to satisfy all of the workers, even the new recruits I knew had been added on to the number.
Upon noticing Ben, Ed, and their posse entering the cafeteria I scooped up two servings, one for me and one for Loki, into the covered tray and scurried to the door, ducking behind a huge, heavily armed man to escape their notice. Watching them as I went for the cafeteria exit I saw them march straight up to the window, pushing through the crowd trying to get their breakfast. Fear pricked the back of my mind. They were getting upset at not finding me, and they were trying to track me down now. Instead of them forgetting me because of them not seeing me every meal, they were trying harder to find me. Now I was no longer merely annoyed by them, no, now I believe I was becoming a bit afraid of them. They had guns after all, and they had already in their aggravating way shown me that they could be very violent.
Trying to force them out of my mind I headed towards Loki's room. Last night had been... odd, I suppose the word is, but there had been some goodwill in it, which I hoped would carry on into this morning. Knocking on the door I waited a few moments until I heard him call me in. As per usual a rush of nerves overcame me as I pushed the door open. Stepping in I saw Loki standing across the room, facing the opposite wall from me, his scepter in hand, his back straight, and yet his head was down. Turning, his eyes were hard and, maybe, a bit fearful? However once they landed on me, this odd, almost frightening look of his faded and he took a few steps towards me in a jaunty fashion, a smirk playing on his face as if the previous look had never existed.
