In my surprise, I instinctly tried to pull away a bit, but his hand on my cheek gently, but firmly held me there. I had no idea what to do! My heart was like a jackhammer, my stomach filled with bubbles, my legs felt like jelly, and my mind was simultaneously rushing at a thousand miles an hour and completely shut off. What should I do? Kiss him back? Try to pull away again? Did I want to kiss him? How does one kiss? His lips were warm and soft as they rested gently, almost fearfully against mine for only a few seconds in a long peck before he pulled back before I could decide on what I should do. I blinked at him stupidly as his face retreated from mine and his hand fell from my cheek.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
Suddenly I remembered how to breathe and I instantaneously rushed out the words, "Don't be." A blush rose to my cheeks and I stammered, "I-it just, uh, just startled me. I wasn't expecting it"
He nodded and pulled away further, not looking at me.
Without even thinking about it, I breathed, "I...I liked it though."
Loki's eyes flew up to mine, surprise, disbelief, happiness, and several other emotions swirling in their green depths. He stared at me like he was silently asking if I was serious, searching my face for any sign that I hadn't meant it. I did mean it though and my blush grew darker as I realized this fact myself. I had liked the kiss, the soft warm feeling it had left on my lips and in my chest. Slowly the corners of his mouth turned up, huffing a slight laugh of relief. He stepped back up to me, took my hands in his, and leaned down to my face for another kiss.
This one started off as another long peck, but this time I leaned into it. I've never really kissed before, but I followed his lead as our lips started moving together. It was a sweet kiss, full of longing and disbelief, neither of us truly believing what we were doing, trying to convey all our emotions through our lips. Loki's hands left mine and slowly moved up my arms while I placed mine on his chest. He tasted of mint. I never wanted this kiss to end, but eventually it did and he rested his forehead gently against mine.
"Please don't go and do this, Loki." I whispered pleadingly.
"I must." He sighed.
"Loki, please-"
"I have to, Penelope, if I don't everything is lost." He looked at me sincerely, "After I plummeted from the Bifrost, I met who I called my 'business partner'. He called himself a titan and is named Thanos. He's more powerful than anything and anyone in the universe, and he tortured me. In my anger and hurt from Asgard and under threat from Thanos, I made a deal. I will get him the Tesseract in exchange for the power over his army called the Chitauri. I made a plan though that he won't get the Tesseract and its power, but if I fail, if the plan goes wrong he will come himself and destroy this planet. Is not my rule of it better than its total destruction? I will win over this group of heroes, trick Thanos and lay waste to his armies once they've done my bidding, and rule this world as a good king. If not this planet is forfeit along with every soul on it, including you, and I will not let that happen."
"Loki..."
"I must go." He planted a quick kiss on my forehead, then turned and strode out of the room, closing the door behind him.
I wanted to run after him, to plead with him not to do this, but I was stuck to the floor there, my legs unable to move. A single tear dripped from my eye as I tried to hold down the emotions that were bubbling over inside of me. I was ecstatic from the kiss, my heart throbbed for the man and palpitated when I thought of his touch on my arms, his lips on mine, but I was angry that he insisted on going forward with his plan, confused at how my feelings were all twisted up, and hurt by the fact that I had allowed him to leave. Why was all of this happening to me?
