Today is the worst day of my life.
Not only did I wake up terribly late and then had to face my brother, but I also had to give my statement at the police station. Although the former was worse than the latter, they're both not something I want to have on my experience list, but I swear on my life that going to the police is better than facing Kevin at a time like this.
Kevin hadn't been around when I got out of my bed. Also not during breakfast and he hadn't been home when mom, dad and I left to go to the police station.
I don't know where he was, but I had this feeling that he was avoiding me. But this seemed to be a wrong feeling, because when I come home, Kevin sits in our living room with a plate of muffins on his lap. He has a big smile on his face as he walks my way.
I open my mouth to ask him where he was, but I don't get the chance because Kevin pulls me into a hug.
"I'm sorry I didn't notice it. I'm sorry I was a bad brother," he whispers before he gives me a kiss between my eyebrows. It makes me immediately feel protected.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you," I whisper back at him. He caresses my shoulders in a reassuring matter.
We stand there for a couple of minutes. Just hugging and Kevin caressing my shoulders. It felt good. It also makes me wonder why I could ever think that he or my parents would dump me after telling them. I hadn't even told them, they had to find out by themselves, but they were still here.
It makes me realize that they'll always be here. They won't just dump me for something stupid like this. They are family. They stand up for you even when you're wrong. They'll always have your back. That's what family does, that's what family is for.
"Let's watch movies!" Kevin announces. We both sit down on the couch and Kevin turns on 'cars'. I give him a look and he gives me a boyish grin. Kev has always loved this movie. Still does. He's such a child sometimes.
---
"I want ice cream," I whine as the movie is ended. "Then you go get ice cream," Kevin deadpans me.
"Do you want to get ice cream with me?" I ask him in my sweet voice. Kevin rolls his eyes playfully, but we both know he loves ice cream and would do anything for it.
"Let me just call Liv and Jay, then we're going together." A part of me wants to tell him to not invite Jay, because of yesterday, but that would be selfish. I'm not going to be selfish right now.
"Mom, we're going to get ice cream," I tell my mom who is eating some weird food combination. Pregnancy does weird things with the woman.
"It's okay baby. Your father and I are going to the hospital to check this one," she says rubbing her baby bump. She's almost 5 months along now and you can really start to see the baby bump. About a month ago mom and dad announced it to the world when mom started to wear looser shirts.
Mom's students had congratulated her and they were all genuinely happy for her. She came home so happy that day because it's still what makes mom happy. Making others happy and apparently, she had made a lot of people happy by being pregnant. Weird, I know.
I wish I could say the same about dad's fans. Since dad still has the same striking looks he had when he first started. He did not also have fans from around the same age as his, the fans who've been for a long time supporting him, but dad also still has teenage fans.
Girls that have fantasies of them being together. These fans are mostly the worst. Most of them just want dad to be happy and respect his family, but there are also fans that hate mom, Kevin and me for being his family. Which is actually kind of pathetic.
