"What's wrong?" I turn my head around to see my boyfriend standing behind me. I raise my eyebrows in question at him. "You only sit here when you want to be alone to think," he explains sitting down next to me. My insides turn into a puddle, I never thought he noticed something like that.
"I just wanted to run away from the interrogation," I tell him. Jay chuckles in response. "Your family too?" I nod my head.
"Our families are having dinner together tonight," Jay informs me. I turn my head towards him to look at him. Only to find him already looking at me. "You're kidding right?" He shakes his head with a slight smile on his face.
"We're dead. We're so so dead," I whine burying my head in his shoulder. Jay wraps his arm around my shoulder. "You'll have me to die with," he reassures me.
"Is it only going to be our families or has my mom decided to get the Griers too?" I ask Jay leaning into his embrace. "I think so," he answers. "Be ready to tell all the details of our date," I tell him. He raises his eyebrows in question. "Aunt Megan and Liv are even worse than both our families combined," I explain for him. He chuckles as he starts to understand it.
"Well, at least I'll die with the woman I'm in love with," Jay states after a little while. I chuckle at him while he presses a sweet kiss to my temple.
"We're not even twenty-four hours together and we're already a cheesy couple," Jay chuckles as he gives me another kiss on my cheek. "I love it though," I answer staring off into the waves.
The both of us sit in silence staring at the waves a little while. I actually don't want to leave, but I don't have a choice either. After about an hour, aunt Demi calls Jay to come to the Mendes-household. She doesn't forget to mention to bring me too, which means that she knew the two of us were together and it'll be time for what most likely will be the most awkward dinner ever.
--------
I don't like to admit it, but I was wrong. This dinner wasn't the most awkward thing ever. Aunt Megan and Liv were planning on interrogating both Jay and me, but luckily, my mother managed to stop them. We actually talked about normal things, but I didn't miss the threatening glances dad, Kevin and uncle Hayes sent Jay every time he smiled or even looked at me.
By the time dessert comes, I'm sick of it. "Can you stop glaring at him? He didn't do anything wrong," I yell at them annoyed when mom places a dessert in front of me. Kevin rolls his eyes while dad and uncle Hayes look away innocently.
"I really hate you," I mutter under my breath. On the other side of the table, I hear Jay chuckle.
I stare up at him to find him already look at me, again. He doesn't look away, even when he puts a piece of his dessert in his mouth. "I'm in love with you," he mouths to me when he swallowed the piece of dessert. "I'm in love with you," I immediately mouth back.
Normally, I would cringe at the cheesiness, but somehow I don't. It seems all so natural with Jay. I can't help but immediately compare all of this to my relationship with Matt.
Sure, I never told Matt I loved him, which looking at it now, I didn't, but even if I did, Matt and I never had a relationship like this. Matt was always bossing me around. I never got to make my own decisions.
With Jay, everything is so different. Although we haven't even been together for a day, everything is already different. All Jay's actions show how much he cares. How much he loves me. All of his actions are careful like he's scared to break me a little. I normally hate being treated like glass, but with him, I don't seem to mind that either.
"Sis, you're pretty scary when you dreaming off," Kevin whispers in my ear snapping me out of my thoughts. I look up to see everybody staring at me. Uncle Hayes and uncle Cameron are barely able to keep their laughter in.
