"You ready Mendes?" Aless flashes me one of his perfect smiles as I open the front door. "If I say 'no' will you help me skip?" I ask him before giving him an uncomfortable smile back.
"I'm going to say 'no' to that because g-ma is glaring at me from behind you," Aless jokes. I don't have to look behind me to see that Grandma is walking my way. I can feel her presence and hear her footsteps.
"Have fun at school sweetie. Remember, no skipping, no getting kicked out of class and don't start a prank war," grandma tells us in her strict grandmother-voice.
"Ma'am, yes, ma'am," we answer saluting before we walk out of the house.
"It's weird to think that my dad grew up here," I wonder out loud as we walk towards Alesso's car. "A lot different from LA, isn't it?" He winks as I roll my eyes at him. We both step into the car and Aless drives us to school.
---
"Welcome to hell ms. Mendes," my cousin tells me as he parks his car in the parking lot. "I was already in hell," I answer sighing. I step out of the car and somehow all the faces instantly turn to me.
"Don't forget, your father is a Pine Ridge legend," Aless informs me as he places his arm around my shoulder. "Great," I tell him. My voice becoming the definition of sarcasm
"Hey, Reeds! Got yourself a new chick?" A loud voice calls across the hallways. Of course, the voice is male. Aless opens his mouth to answer anything, but I'm faster. I'm like a ninja.
"Oh please. He wishes he's as amazing as I am," I turn around to where the voice came from. "I mean, look at all of this," I move my arms up and down my body.
"What are you doing?" Aless whispers at me. "Just go with it," I whisper back at him.
"Seriously babe? You are really hurting my feelings right now," Aless wraps his shoulder around me and places a kiss on my forehead. "Who would believe it? Reeds finally found himself a girl," the boy says stopping in front of us.
A girl with blonde hair appears beside the boy. "Just wait until he decides he's not good enough for her," she spats out the words.
"You're right. It's not like she's really beautiful or anything. I doubt they're even really together. Nobody is good enough for Aless Reeds," another girl says appearing on the other side of the boy. She looks even bitchier than the first one. I roll my eyes and I hear Aless snort beside me.
"What makes you think that Mary?" He asks the last girl with disgust and a lot of hate in his voice. The girl, apparently called Mary, has dark blonde hair which falls straightly down her shoulders.
"Aless?" I ask him with confusion in my voice. "Oh, you don't know? Sweetie, your boyfriend has a reputation and I'm pretty sure he could never love anybody but himself," the Mary-girl tells me with so much hatred in her voice. I open my mouth to tell her something back, but Aless is faster than I am.
"You're wrong, sweetheart. I love Kai. I love her a lot," Aless tells me. I turn towards him 'awe' softly before I press a lip to his cheek. "I love you too, Reeds," I whisper softly.
"Prove it!" The boy tells us breaking our little moment. "Do you need to have everything proved Kyle?" Aless asks. It's weird how his voice goes from soft, sweet and loving the one second and the other it's full of hatred.
"I do now. You have never loved anyone but yourself, so why would you love this mystery girl now," the boy, who is apparently named Kyle, spats out to Kyle while he is pointing at me. Aless tenses beside me. It's a sign he's ready to fight.
