Chapter 48 -Problem

Their plane landed on Charles De Gaulle airport, which is the nearest airport to the Eiffel Tower and to the hotel, where they'll be staying for a week. Since Oxford is rich, he told them to wait at the entrance of the airport so that he can get the car that he just bought when they were still in the airplane to France. Ray moved to Fier's right side when they waited for Oxford to return. Fier turned to Ray and asked a question.

"What did you do wrong?"

"I did nothing wrong.", whispered Ray to him.

After a few minutes, Oxford returned in a car, parked in front of the entrance, where his family and friends are waiting, and helped them put their luggage into the back of the vehicle. Fier was told by Ray to sit in the middle and he accepted the order. They then left the airport and headed to the hotel. They arrived at the hotel after an hour drive and all of sudden, when Oxford was parking the vehicle, his phone started to vibrate, someone is calling. He decided not to answer it for now, but the phone kept vibrating whilst he was parking the car. He answered the call when he finally parked his vehicle and got out.

"What is it now?", questioned Oxford when he started to walk to the entrance.

"Where are you right now?", Oxford was greeted by a question from Chap.

"We just arrived at France.", answered Oxford when he entered the elevator.

"You're breaking up...", said Oxford when he started to hear white noise from the call. "Hello?"

Oxford looked at his phone and found that the call has been abruptly ended. He walked out of the elevator while still staring at his phone, trying to make a call to Chap again but it continued to fail even when he arrived at their room. Just like from the cruise ship, they rented two rooms, one room is for Oxford and his family and the second one for Ray and Fier, which is just across the hallway. Oxford started to wonder about the call ending, for forty years, he never experienced it, that is because they have advanced technologies that prevent those things from happening, plus they haven't failed or malfunctioned for centuries. He sat down on the bed and tried to make another call, this time calling Ony, again it failed to contact him.

"Is there a problem?", Zinnia questioned when she walked into the room and found her husband staring down at his phone, stressed.

"No. Everything is all right.", replied the father when he looked up at his wife with a smile and put the phone away.

"I forgot something, I'll be right back.", said Oxford when he stood up and then left the room and went to the other room, where Ray and Fier are at.

He found Ray and Fier having a conversation in the living room, sitting on the sofa. He gently let them know that he is there with them and called Fier to have a talk with him. Fier and Oxford went to Fier's bedroom, leaving Ray alone in silence. Oxford closed the door and Fier took a seat on the chair that is placed in the room.

"I want you to try to connect to the servers.", said Oxford to Fier when he pulled out his phone and sat down on the edge of the bed.

After a few minutes of silence, Fier announced that he couldn't connect to the servers which is located in the third facility.

"I see...", replied the man before he sighed and put the phone into his right pocket.

While the two are still in the room, Ray stood up and also went to his bedroom, closing and locking the door. He approached his luggage and grabbed the laptop and placed it on the bed when he sat down on the bed also. Ray was surprised when he tried to connect to the servers and an error occurred. He even tried to refresh the page, reboot the laptop but the results are still the same. After a few attempts of trying, Ray gave up and closed the laptop and moved it away from his view, placing it on the right bedside cabinet.

He walked out of the room, acting like he did nothing and sat back down on the sofa, at the exact time that Oxford and Fier walked out of the bedroom. Fier rejoined Ray and Oxford left their room quietly and calmly. Ray turned to Fier and found him staring out at the window.

"Oxford cannot contact his friends and I cannot connect to the servers.", Fier started to talk when he looked back at Ray who is still looking at him.

Ray only nodded at him before looking away.

"Out of all the test subjects that I've met, you stand out.", Fier added after a short pause.

Fier couldn't say the truth, but after a few days with Ray, he started to have this feeling that they are now friends. He felt comfortable with him after the first day that they met. He also started to have this bond, like they are now brothers, and he is happy to have those feelings, well almost. He doesn't know what is going to happen to Ray when Oxford returned him back to the facility and quit his job, but then he remembered something that made him speak all of suddenly.

"I wonder what is going to happen to the two of us when Oxford finally quit his job."

"When was the last time you visited the facility?", questioned Ray.

"To be honest with you, never... I was stolen.", answered Fier when he looked down at his hands that are resting on his lap.

"I'm sorry.", said Ray looking at Fier.

"I started to like you, Ray.", said Fier with a small smile. "If I were one of the high societies, I would've declared you safe to the public right now.", he added.

"I would too.", replied Ray after he chuckled for a second.
