Chapter Twenty-Two
I stared out the plane window that was taking me away from the rainy state of Washington and to wherever Alice and the rest of the Cullen's were waiting. Bella had became lost in her emotions and I couldn't bare to watch her drown herself in depression. So as a parting gift to Bella I compiled her to think that she wasn't hurt emotionally enough to throw her life away because of Edward.
Before leaving I gave Charlie a note and the pictures that Bella had given me telling him that it was my way of apologizing for how the Cullen's had left. Charlie blamed Edward for what happened to Bella and me as well. I was the only thing left in that town that claimed to have anything to do with them after all.
Alice had called and told me she saw me coming and already booked the flight.
Closing my eyes I waited for the trip to be quickly over.
The plane landed and everyone slowly piled off of it at different pace. I adjusted the sunglasses on my head and looked around before spotting Edward and Alice, as the two stood out among the crowd. Edward looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there and Alice was waving at me with excitement.
"Geez, Eddie, you look like you're having the time of your life." I said, reaching the two fairly quickly. "I'm assuming their is another reason to why I flew here other then to enjoy the nice non-sunny weather."
Alice rolled her eyes, as she linked her arm in mine.
"You're going to love it." She said, being careful not to touch the humans while dragging me with her.
"Oh, I'm sure I will." I doubtfully mumbled.
Alice ignored me and explained what the rest of the family was doing, and that Edward himself wasn't going to stick around with everyone. Of course I already knew what he planned on doing. He was going to try and track someone and fail in doing so.
The weeks flew by as everyone fall into some sort routine .
Alice did research on her past from information that Bella had got her.
Esme restored the old residence that we were staying at.
Emmett and Rosalie traveled around the colder parts of the world with no set destination in mind.
Jasper studied philosophy and Carlisle worked at a new hospital that could use his help.
Finally there was Edward - who was hell bent on finding the female he was sure would want to hurt Bella - and me who fall into a strange routine as well. I traveled with Edward, watching him make little progress in his tracking and making that known each passing day.
When I wasn't bothering Edward I would call Alice and ask her how things were going with them. She would give me the same answer with nothing new happening for them either.
It was around two months after we left, sometime in November when I finally lost it with Edward and his pathetic tracking and self sorrowing.
"How can you track her when it's clear you don't even now where to start looking!" I snapped, grabbing his arm and pulling him to a stop. "We've been over this area, time and time again. The only scents here anymore are ours."
Edward pulled his arm out from my hold.
"She came through here. I know she did!" He growled.
I rolled my eyes.
"No you don't! You think you do but you don't! Do the smart think and ask Alice for help because this vampire you're haunting will slip up and give us her location. But you have to stop and ask for help!" I shouted at him, throwing my hands up in frustration.
It was like talking to a brick wall at times.
"If I didn't have you following me around I would've been able to find her already." He accused, trying to play the blame game.
Irritation flashed through me.
"Me! You're going to try and blame this on me!" I balled my fists to try and keep myself from lashing out and ripping his head off. "If you didn't suck at being a vampire then you would've found her! If you stopped acting like a kicked puppy and maned up, you would've found her!"
Shame appeared on his face but it was quickly whipped around with enraged look.
"I'm trying to protect Bella!"
"No, you're trying to right a wrong and you're doing it the wrong way! You feel guilty that you can't protect the human so you're trying to become a hunter, a tracker! And you're doing a miserable job at it."
"Why do you care so much!" He deflated slightly.
I fluttered, confused for a moment at his sentence. My anger disappeared as a small sad smile formed on my face, my shoulders lumping I stared at him.
Wasn't it obvious to him?
"Because you're a stupid strange vampire whose species I still don't know enough about. Seeing you in pain because you gave up someone you love hurts me in ways that it shouldn't. It kills me to watch you drown yourself in this sorrowfulness/pity/depression crap while trying to cover it up with a lame excuse." I crossed my arms, my hands gripping the upper part of them. "Bella isn't the only one who cares about you."
Why can't he see that Bella wasn't the only one who mattered.
