Chapter Twenty-Eight
"Jasper." I greeted, walking through the airport and towards the group of vampires. "They'll coming at a much slower pace." I said, seeing how his eyes didn't really meet mine.
Esme hugged me, before allowing Carlisle to do the same.
"Thank you." He said.
I nodded, knowing that there wasn't anything that he should be thanking me for. Stepping to the side I watched as the other three joined as well. Alice and Edward were matching confused faces as they spotted me.
To them I was just a human they passed by.
To the family I was someone who was important. In my own way I was one of them.
"How do you know her?" Edward voice his thoughts.
I gave the group a sheepish grin. "Oops." I chuckled, rubbing my neck. "So quick short story. Alice and Edward don't know who I am and Bella can't tell anyone about me."
The looks I were getting had me regretting my actions. I shrugged.
"You complied them." Carlisle sounded both upset and interested in it.
I nodded. "I, uh, didn't want those vampires to know about my exists, BUT I can fix it." I said, shifting my weight. "But can that wait?"
"Do we know her?" Alice asked. "I don't see her in my visions."
"Yes." Edwards tone was hard.
Great, I answered the mind reading vampire somehow and Alice sounded like a lost puppy.
"She's dead on her feet." Esme scolded Edward, causing me to chuckle. "Let's get her home. And Belle dear," I nodded. "Thank you for everything."
"I owed your family." I answered, following after them. "It was the least I could do."
Esme and Edward lead Bella through the airport, with me and Carlisle following behind them. Alice and Jasper behind us. No one talked as we made our way through and to the parking garage.
Roselia and Emmett wait for us. I nodded at her, watching as Edward and Bella got in with them. Turning I followed Carlisle to the other one and and sliding into the back with Alice and Jasper.
During the trip I turned to Alice and let her remember everything that I had made her forget. Her eyes widening as she realized what I had done. Promising to make it up to her and not do it again Alice quickly forgave me.
"What happened to Edward?" She asked finally. "I saw you reaching him. Why was it Bella that stopped his near death and not you?"
Her question caused a pain to hit me, the air leaving my body as my eyes tightened closed. Was this what I would feel now because of him?
"Belle?" Esme concerned voice said.
Taking a deep breath I shook my head and forced a grin on my face.
"Stomach pains." I lied, shifting as I met her warm gentle eyes. "Edward hadn't wanted to listen to me and decided that he still rather die then live without her. He didn't care what I had to say on the matter." I tried to sound unimpressed in his decision.
I couldn't let them now it hurt that he choose her.
He was their son/brother.
I was the stranger that was slowly getting accepted.
He was their own kind.
I was the girl that fall in love with someone already in a relationship.
"I'm tired." I said before Alice could call me out. "Is it okay if I rest."
"Of course dear." Esme said, soft music filling the car.
Leaning my head back I once more closed my eyes hoping to fall into a dreamless sleep that would help me forget. Jasper moved in his shift before a jacket was dropped over me for some strange reason.
These family treated me like a human when I wasn't one.
"Ja-"
"Keep it." It was Alice who spoke up. "You're shivering."
A small smile formed even as the pain hit me at the loss of Edward. I reached out and grabbed Alice's hand, squeezing it.
"Thank you." I mumbled.
Soon I slipped into a deep sleep that would help me hide from the pain of reality.
