Chapter Nineteen
Edward took Bella home while Carlisle worked on taking the glass out of my wound. The smell of the blood still lingered in the air and made the human faint. He also didn't want to risk another member of his family going after her for such a small cut.
"How are you doing, Belle?"
I chuckled at his question. "I should've arrived later. The cut stings you know but it's not nearly as bad other wounds I've gotten before." I explained, tilting my head back to look at the ceiling. "That human really knows how to have fun." I joked.
Carlisle laughed as well.
"She didn't mean for it to happen. It could happen to anyone." He defended her. "She was just unlucky this time."
I nodded in agreement.
"If I wasn't here it would be her getting this glass taken out or she'd be turning into one of you. I would put my bet on though getting the glass taken out. Edward seems very," I hesitated for a second on my next words. "Protective and unwilling for her to become a vampire."
"He doesn't want her to lose the life she's living." He explained, getting another small piece out that caused me to wince. "He think's she'll lose her soul if she's turned into one of us."
I thought about it and wondered if that was true. Deciding that I didn't want to talk about Edward or Bella I changed the subject to another matter.
"My blood... does it bother your family?" I asked.
Alice appeared with a clean shirt for me and some bandage. "I don't usually notice your blood." Alice answered, having heard my question. "Tonight's the first time it hit any of us." She handed Carlisle the bandages.
"Strange." I mumbled, waiting for the time to quickly pass.
Slowly the others started to fill the house once again.
Esme came through the kitchen with a guilty look and once more said sorry. I blew her concerns off saying that I was made for this and that if it had been the human Bella that got hurt that she'd have a reason to apologize. I showed her the wound that was not but a scar that was slowly disappearing.
She was amazed that I could heal so quickly.
Emmett and Roselia came next, one looking cheerful and the other still angry. Rosalie didn't bother to see how I was fairing which was fine. I didn't need anyone to worry about me when the accident hadn't been life threatening. Emmett said he wanted to fight me to see what else I was hiding from them.
Healing fast was but one of my many qualities.
Finally Jasper came through the door looked upset at himself and full of guilt. I could tell without having to read his mind that he blamed himself for the events that happened. He shouldn't have lost control like that and yet he had.
I moved, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"It's not your fault, you know." I said, meeting his black eyes. "Bella's fine and still alive with a tiny paper cut. She didn't get hurt. You just went to long without feeding." I continued, seeing the guilt still fill his eyes.
"You got hurt." His voice was laced with pain.
"Aw, this little cut is nothing." I chuckled, stepping back and showing him the scar that was nearly gone. "You should've seen it when this hunter this one time stabbed a branch into me. Now that hurt." I groaned, smiling at him. "Of course he didn't live to tell the story after that time."
I had been with Elijah and heading towards the location we thought Klaus had disappeared to when it happened. My brother had went to get us some horses to ride and I stayed at the camp sight when the hunter stumbled on me. I believe a witch had helped him locate me.
All in all my brother returned to witness the incident and didn't take to kindly to his sister being impaled. The hunter lost his heart that day.
"Someone stabbed you with a branch?" Emmett voice boomed from somewhere in the house.
"True story." I answered, hearing his laughter. "So this glass, it was nothing. It wasn't anyone's fault." I lied.
Jasper nodded with unsureness not believing it. Alice grabbed his arm sending me a small smile and pulled him with her to the other room. I sighed, my eyes closing for a moment.
I should've known better then to come to Bella's party.
Moving, I walked to the couch that was still in the living room while Alice clean the mess up with Esme's help. Feeling tired I sat down and placed my head on my arms as I watched them.
Would it be better if I couldn't sleep like them? I couldn't understand how they didn't need sleep and wished that was something that we shared. It would've been nice if I didn't have to sleep.
Or eat. Really nice if I didn't have to eat human food.
Really, the blood was enough.
Though I did enjoy coffee and the alcohol.
My eyes fluttered closed as I rested in wait. I found myself drifting on and off, hearing bits and pieces of conversation that didn't appear to be important. Someone placed a blanket over me, covering me up.
Stupid creepy vampires that never sleep at night appear to have to much time on their hands. There were only two that didn't fit in that category and that was Esme and Carlisle.
It wasn't until a loud anger voice shouted that I woke up.
My eyes snapped opened as I looked around, listening for where the arguing had came from. Sitting up the blanket dropped onto the couch as I went to see what Edward was blowing up over now.
"You're going to wake Belle up, son." Carlisle tried to warn.
"I am awake." I said, leaning against the door frame. "Someone appears to be in a grumpy mood."
Edward sent me a glare.
"I think its for the best if we leave." Edward said, his eyes locking onto Alice. "This should be my decision."
"We can't! She'll still be in danger." Alice argued back.
I looked between them having a feeling that Edward wanted to leave his beloved human behind. Alice seems to be against the idea.
"Not if we're gone." Edward snapped.
"It's up to him, Alice." Carlisle joined. "As Edward has said, this incident might cause others to question us and we don't need that. We should leave before it gets out of hand."
So I was right.
"Why are you leaving? Because Bella got a paper cut and almost hurt because you can't control yourself around a human." My statement was directed at Edward as I straightened out. "You fall for a human but when things don't go your way you're willing to toss her aside. I honestly thought to highly of you."
"You don't know anything." Edward growled.
"I know that a vampire like your kind tried to kill her but you saved her and stopped her from turning. I know that the two of you are so in love that it makes me sick to my stomach to look at you. I know that she's human and you're a vampire. What else is there to know?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "If you leave her there's still a chance that she'll run into someone of your kind. She knows what you look like. She knows what you are. Your not protecting her by leaving."
"What would you know about love or family! You're running away from yours because they want you dead." Pain shot through me at the reminder. "I'm trying to protect Bella and this is the only way to."
I raised my hands shaking my head at him.
"Do whatever you want, Edward." I said, looking at each of his family. "If your family does decide to leave this town then so be it. I won't stop you but I won't remain behind protecting a human I have no interest in."
"Will you join us?" Alice asked.
"I don't know." I answered truthfully. "We're two different type of species and it might be best I forget about you and your kind. If I do decide to though I'll make sure to run it by everyone besides Edward. He doesn't get a say in rather I follow your family or not."
I turned leaving before Edward could try and take another dig at me.
