Chapter Twenty-Nine
I was sitting on the couch, my legs crossed as I argued with Emmett over the chess game. It didn't take me long to figure out that Alice told them that something fishy must've happened with Edward and Jasper decided to add that I felt extremely hurt about something. Emmett, in his own stupid way, was trying to get all the juicy details.
"You can't move your bishop like that!" I once again snapped.
"Did you and Edward snuggle?" Emmett wiggled his eyebrows at me.
I rolled my eyes. "Keep your mind out of the gutter." I snapped, placing the pieces he kept trying to move wrong back into their rightful place. "Besides, Edward has the human." Even I could hear the bitterness in my voice.
His laughter boomed.
"You're jealous." He was amused.
"Of who? That stupid mind reading stalkerish vampires!" I snapped. "Like I ever would be."
He continued to laugh at me causing my annoyance to build up. Finally I snapped and threw my King at him. I watched with great amusement as it sailed through the air and landed in his mouth.
"Score!"
"You runt!"
I laughed, watching as the king snapped into pieces.
"You better not be spitting that out on my floor!" Esme warned even though she couldn't possible see what happened.
Emmett looked torn between disobeying her and listening to her.
"Now, now, Emmett." I teased. "We wouldn't want to make Esme mad, would we?" I stood, moving away from the game and towards the back door. "Why don't we settle this once and for all, muscles?"
He followed after me with a glare on his face.
It didn't take long for Jasper, Alice, and Rosalie to come out and watch.
Grinning, I held my hand out. "Let the best women win."
His hand tightened on mine as he tried to intimidate me. "There is no way that you're as strong as me." He was full of confidence that was about to get torn to shreds. "You won't be winning this time, Bel."
I chuckled.
"Let's make a little bet then." I suggested, stepping back. "You win I'll tell you everything that happened between me and Eddie. But if I win I get to dress you however I want for a week and take pictures."
His confidence wavered slightly before steeling.
"Deal. Now how shall we settle this?"
Before we could continue I heard Edwards voice calling out for everyone except me. Sharp pain hit me as I looked at the house knowing that Bella was in there as well. A cold hand was placed on my shoulder but I didn't look to see who it was.
"Looks like we'll have to wait to see what Edward wants." Emmett disappointment was clear as day. "It'll give you time to consider taking back your words."
"Or give you time to hide in your nest like the chicken you are." I counted, forcing my smirk to remain on my face. "Would hate to embarrass you in front of everyone."
"He doesn't that himself without the help of others." Rosalie joined in, earning a fake hurt-filled look from him.
"Let's see what they wanted." Alice said, leading them towards the house.
I didn't move knowing that this wasn't my job. A different type of hurt went through me this time. This one stung differently and made me realize just how much I missed belonging to a family like this.
