KIHARA FUYUMI POV

It was the year 1865, time passed quickly, for humans maybe but not for us demons, Sanan recovered but he was under my surveillance, I’ve been watching his every move for the past months, I’ve noted that the blood lust’s episode becomes longer and more painful for him sometimes he attacks me but I manage to knock him out before he becomes wild and out of control, but once in a while I take pity on him and heal him using my powers lessening the pain but, even I know that isn’t enough to completely take the pain or his condition away unlike Okita’s tuberculosis, I’ve been writing letters to my Otōsama reporting to him what’s going on, all my reports were brief and short I secretly make my shadow butterflies carry it away to deliver it to him. I am getting fond and soft towards the Shinsengumi but I also keep reminding myself that I cannot get attached to them, I am here for the sole purpose of protecting Yukimura Chizuru, no one else, not the Shinsengumi and not…him

“Fuyumi-chan! Please stop! Heisuke-kun already says he gives up!” I came into realization that I was choking Heisuke with my scabbard, he wasn’t moving, I immediately let go and checked his pulse

“Thank the gods I didn’t kill him by accident…” I sighed in relief “Sorry Heisuke-kun” I apologized, he fainted

“I’ll carry Heisuke to his room, so that he can rest...” Harada offered awkwardly laughing, he hoisted Heisuke up on his shoulder then stalked off

“You seem out of sorts lately Kihara” Hijikata commented, he was observing Heisuke and I spar “I think I need a little exercise as well” he says coming down the stairs we were at the courtyard by the large tree training, Chizuru had nothing else to do so she watched so did Harada but I don’t know why Hijikata was watching, maybe he took a break and caught interest in our fight or spar rather.

“…” he brought out his sword and readied his fighting stance, I just gave a blank look at him but took my sword out as well nonetheless, we began, Hijikata’s blows weren’t a joke he was serious, he had this piercing look in his eyes, we traded blows left and right dodging and attack each other, to my surprise he was pushing me back “…tch” I clicked my tongue and gritted my teeth in annoyance, we traded blows again and the one that was getting pushed back was Hijikata now

“Heh…” he smirked, both of us wanted to hurt each other but since this is just a spar we need to hold back…

Or so I thought

“…” I wince at the pain on my side, I didn’t notice since I was so focused in defeating him that I was hit by his sword

“Are you okay Fuyumi-chan?!” Chizuru was about to run towards me but I held my hand up and shook my head signaling her to ‘don’t come close’ we were still in the middle of a spar after all, I gave a smirk at Hijikata, I applaud him for not just being a vice-commander of the Shinsengumi but also being a plain human for landing a hit on me without me purposely being hit.
But…

“Gh…” Chizuru was surprised at Hijikata’s groan I hit him at the side of his thigh…it was also a shallow cut but we were even…

“Hijikata-san!” Chizuru’s anxiety increased, she knows that our spar wouldn’t end until someone is down for the count, I ready my sword again, I lunged at Hijikata who blocked in time but still wincing by the cut I made

“That’s enough Vice-Commander, Kihara” Saito’s voice interrupted, giving us a stern look “There’s no point sparring to the death” Hijikata gave an annoyed glance at Saito but sighed and stepped back withdrawing his sword, I withdraw my sword as well

“Hijikata-san” I called out “I’m not going to say sorry at the wound I’ve inflicted but” I paused then nodded my head “I applaud your strength as a human for inflicting a wound on me” I said to him, Chizuru gave a confused look at me, I still didn’t tell Chizuru about what we are, I don’t think it’s the time for her to learn it yet…and everything else “I’ll get going now” I said to him I turn my back to him then stride off towards our room.
