THALIA BROOKE didn't ask to be a mutant with her abilities. She had grown to accept she was a mutant, that couldn't be changed, it was part of her, in her genes. If anything, she wished to be a cool mutant. Like Charles Xavier and his mental abilities, or quite literally anything but hers.
No one wanted a mutant with the ability to accidentally obliterate things by opening her mouth, they wanted someone who could control nice, clean powers that had no drawbacks. Thalia's had several.
Sometimes, she would worry if she opened her mouth to speak, word of agony and high-pitched pain would pierce the air and decimate everything near her, while others she would worry if she tried to let out a much-needed wail, nothing but a faint crack would release. She was just beginning to control her powers at the age of fifteen, seven years after she was tainted with them.
Thalia didn't know what to do with her powers, so she kept them hidden. Buried down within her and locked away in a closet.
Then Johnny Storm, a member of the Fantastic Four, a group of superheroes with a tight leash, comes along and becomes an all-too-frequent Starbucks customer of hers. Thalia worked as a Starbucks barista to earn money to pay for her car, not to bring too many lattes and mochas to a boy who warmed them up himself when they got too cold.
Typically, baristas and cashiers would slip their number onto the cup when they handed it to the customer. Except, Johnny didn't like that idea, so when she went to take his latte, written on the side of the cup was his name and number with a 'call me."
It was arguably very straight forward, but Thalia thought he was nice and funny, plus, whether she would admit it or not, she thought Johnny was incredible, because his abilities were perfect.
Quickly after talking and a few dates, Thalia realized that maybe his abilities weren't as picture perfect as she originally thought. She couldn't ever tell him about hers, because as imperfect as his might be, hers weren't something to boast or talk about.
But Johnny embraced his abilities, so maybe Thalia could. Maybe not, but she was willing to try to come to terms with her abilities.

→ thalia's x-gene presented itself after a car crash when she was eight.
→ thalia's powers are how they sound, honestly. if she focuses, she can let out a sonic noise that decimates things in front of her and slightly surrounding her. though it is hard for her to control them, because if her emotions get out of check, it's hard to control what comes out of her mouth.
→ johnny is sixteen! don't make him old, that's creepy.
