TITLE → Girl Next Door
OC'S NAME → Aya Koffi
LOVE INTEREST → Flash Thompson
TIMELINE → Pre Spider-Man: Homecoming
AYA KOFFI had never been one of the popular kids, or had many friends, for that matter. She only moved to Queens, or rather the United States, in seventh grade. Having a thick accent and difficulty learning new curriculum others learned long ago didn't make her popular, much less her social awkwardness that only increased once she arrived.
It didn't help that it was just her and her mother, either. Her mother and father had divorced, and her father had always wanted to stay for his mother while Aya's mother wanted to leave for America, where some of her relatives were, and work for the large newspaper companies. Her mother's dream was always to become a journalist, meaning Aya didn't want to ruin her dreams.
So Aya's entire life was uprooted, down to everything, and she was moved to Queens, New York. Once she arrived, no one wanted to sit with the girl who had a thick accent and had to have extra help from the teacher, meaning she didn't rise the ranks in popularity.
But there was one thing she hated about her school, and it wasn't even the millions of things she could reasonably complain about: it was Flash Thompson. The family next door who argued into the late hours of the night, and the boy who had gotten suspended on multiple occasions for disputes that could have easily been avoided.
He wasn't her favorite person, and she wasn't his, either. They'd shared almost two sentences that consisted of her saying "Move please, you are blocking the hallway" and him responding with "Shut up".
She didn't think too much of him, thinking she was just the girl next door and he was the asshole with arguable anger issues. Which, when he knocked on her window after managing to climb the fire escape, she was given a heart attack and immense confusion. He gave the flimsy explanation of "I needed some space."
Who goes to the random girl next door, across a fire escape, to ask for a place to escape to? It was beyond her.
FACECLAIM → karidja touré as aya koffi
❝ first, you make me spill my coffee, now you want to stay in my room for some reason? i- what is your thought process. ❞
EXTRA.
→ aya is from the ivory coast and muslim. that is not changeable.
→ flash does not have a good home life, due to his father's abuse and the tension within his family. he goes to aya's room because he wanted to escape the atmosphere of his house, and aya just happened to be the closest person (aka the only, really).
→ the two grow close after she lets him in, because it became a somewhat routine. aya never says anything, but it started off as her knowing how flash felt, from her parents' constant arguing before they were divorced.
→ aya isn't completely separated from her father. she does not see him due to the distance, but they do video chat/skype, call and text.
