TITLE → Call Me in the AM
OC'S NAME → Valeria "Val" Acosta
LOVE INTEREST → Steve Rogers
TIMELINE → Captain America: The Winter Soldier
VALERIA ACOSTA now worked a desk job. She'd been sidelined after an encounter with an unknown hostile group in the southern part of the United States, and hadn't been put back into the field.
She was yearning until her five months of recuperation time were up. Valeria swore up and down that she was perfectly fine, and she was, but it was the protocol for five months, and it wouldn't be broken for anyone, and certainly not her.
Working a desk job that she loathed, and counting down the ticking days on the calendar, marking it every single day until the destined day came, Valeria focused on that, and that alone.
With her only focus being her reintroduction to the field, Valeria didn't notice anything strange, as no one else did, as well. It seemed normal, the only thing awry at S.H.I.E.L.D. being that the coffee machine was broken in one of the re-energize rooms.
But, just weeks away from the destined date that meant she could rejoin the field, she gets a call from her ex-boyfriend, Steve Rogers, that things were going south, and that he needed her help for transport, and quick.
Valeria had tried her best not to think about Steve since their breakup three and a half months previously, but everything she'd shoved deep down inside her like a spring came flooding forward, and Valeria realized that maybe she hadn't fully gotten over Steve as she had thought.
Helping her ex (which she was pretty sure broke every "moving on" code in the book, not that she cared though), Valeria was jeopardizing her entire career, the one she loved and worked so hard for.
Valeria wanted nothing more than to go tell Steve to shove his noble pride somewhere, and leave him and Agent Romanoff to fend for themselves, but she couldn't find it in herself. Not because she wasn't sure if she was quite over Steve and didn't still love him, or because she felt loyal to him due to his title—because this was much bigger than her, bigger than any of them.
