WICK ANDREI had always been called a wanderer. From foster home to foster home to foster home, from city to city, from job to job, from person to person. The list went on and on. Even he believed he was a wanderer, too, despite what someone used to tell him.
When the apocalypse hit, Wick evolved like he always did and would continue to do. From place to place, from person to person, just like he had before. He never stayed too long, never met anyone for too long. Constantly moving kept you alive, constantly leaving kept you smart and secure.
Then Wick met a group near Atlanta. He hadn't meant to, he'd meant to camp out in the woods for a few days, maybe catch a few things, and head out. Like he always did. Except he ran into Daryl Dixon, a foul-mouthed man who nearly shot him with his crossbow. Wick almost didn't recognize the person he'd spent two years of his childhood with.
Wick quickly noticed that Daryl had changed immensely. He'd became what his brother wanted him to be, what his father told him he wasn't. Wick could see how that changed him. Daryl needed someone, someone other than his brother who brought too many bitter memories, so Wick followed him back to a camp with the most people he'd seen in weeks.
Wick Anderi was a man who didn't stay for long, but the one exception had been Daryl Dixon. And once again, Daryl was that exception he didn't think he'd ever take. They were each other's exceptions, each other's fault lines that always fell.
But truth be told, you never knew someone, not even if you loved them with all your heart.

→ wick and daryl knew each other when they were fourteen to sixteen. wick met daryl at the high school they went to, and they became quick friends, due to similar interests. wick wanted to run away from his foster home to atlanta, but he stayed because daryl was going through a rough time and he wanted to be there for him. they didn't date, but they had an unsaid relationship, one that they didn't show in public. wick left after daryl said he didn't like him, that he never had, due to his father and brother's influence and abuse.
→ when they meet again, wick's surprised, but doesn't think anything will come of it, because even though it's been years, he's still rather bitter. however, after time, wick realized the daryl had changed, too.
