NYLA ODAIR had been the youngest Victor in the history of Panem. At the young age of twelve, she had won the games, only to be sent home to a new home at the Victor's Wharf with a dead mother, and Finnick Odair staging as the "love of her life" under order of President Snow.
When they first met, it was in Finnick's hollow home, forced together to be the perfect couple. She'd been a shell at that point, a bruised, empty shell of a small girl, and he'd been the tall, understanding older boy who did nothing but slowly bring her into his arms. That was how they worked, from the moment they met.
For the longest time, Finnick had been nothing but a friend to her, the supportive person in her life and the only person she could relax with. Until they weren't just for looks, until his embrace filled her with warmth and the kiss to the temple was comforting instead of irritating. And even though her life was crumbling, she had the solace of them. Nyla and Finnick. Mrs and Mr Odair.
That was her home, her haven. Then the Quarter Quell came, and the two were plucked to be District Four's Tributes, ruining Nyla's peace. She'd been a tool for the Capitol for much too long, and with Finnick and the other Tributes by her side, she vowed to destroy the Capitol until nothing but ruins stood.
As long as she had Finnick by her side, she could do it all—except she wasn't sure what "all" even was.

→ nyla and finnick, essentially, fake dated! the capitol made them do it, to become the perfect couple, since they were both pretty and young. for years, he was only her close friend (like a brother, she thought), until they were more. eventually, the capitol made them get married, and by then, everything wasn't fake. by the point of this book, they think of each other genuinely like husband and wife!
→ nyla is from district four, like finnick, and is an exceptional swimmer, which is what won her games. also: she is a 'desirable,' please don't write that out. it's important to her character, and she does have ptsd from that and the hunger games (though, in the hunger games universe, ptsd isn't a topic that exists, so there won't be any diagnosis of any sort, so nyla sees it as normal).
