DANNI CHOI was scared of Leo Valdez because flames had extinguished her life. Not like Frank Zhang, where flames could extinguish his life—flames had quite literally killed her a year before.
Danni coming back to life was a fluke in the system. She'd been ripped from the fields of Asphodel and right back into her world, right into the aftermath of the Titan War, where she found out her boyfriend died in the same explosion that snuffed her out.
After her second, unwanted chance at life, her father, Triton, sent her to Camp Νερό. Her father thought she needed a drastic change of scenery, away from the reminders of the life she'd lost. And, his idea worked, and she was incredibly thankful. She gradually got happier, got excited about things, looked forward to the next day instead of wondering when they'd stop coming. Danni even got to see her father more than the few scattered times, so regularly they'd schedule dinners and lunches, as far as meeting his wife. For the first time in too long, Danni was looking forward to the days that came before her.
That is until she's told by her father that her time had come, that the reason she'd been brought back to life came knocking on her door. The curly-haired idiot, Leo Valdez, who called her "Fishy Friend" six times, was declared dead by many, but, somehow, wasn't dead at all.
Danni wanted nothing to do with him. He terrified her, because she'd seen him obliterate everything in his path with flames, even in water—just like the Greek fire that had taken Danni's life a year before. The thought of having to find the boy who personified her death shot fear into her veins, but she vowed to make her father proud, to return with her head held high and etch her name into the wall of heroes.
She didn't know what she expected, but it was certainly much harder than she expected it to be. Leo Valdez—a fellow foster kid like her—knew how to run and hide with ease, and when he was being hunted by nearly every creature in mythology, he was a ghost.
Danni Choi was determined to find Leo Valdez, bring him back to Camp Half-Blood, and make her father proud.
But Danni didn't count on Leo being nice and understanding, or terrified out of his mind. For a moment, she'd forgotten he was a person and not a token to trade in for glory.

→ Danni died, but what brought back after Triton begged his father to bring her back, since she was his only child. They were under the impression that she was brought back because of Poseidon, not by the written in stone ending.
→ Due to dying by fire (and dying), Danni has PTSD from the event. Because of that, Leo terrifies her. Not him himself, but the ability he has. Please, don't gloss over the fact, but don't make her still entirely scared of him with the romance part, that'd be toxic.
→ I'm going to list her powers, since they're different from Percy's and wouldn't be clear in the books since Triton's barely there. Control over water, hydrokinesis (like Percy), telepathy with aquatic animals, speed swimming (it's described as how the gods "fly" in the sky on the Wiki page), and slight shape-shifting (not entire appearance shifting, but partial).
→ Danni was raised in foster care since birth, but at the age of eight she was taken by a Satyr to Camp Half-Blood and lived permanently there until she went to Camp Νερό, where she lived permanently, too.
