TITLE → Sky's Not Blue
OC'S NAME → Maverick Wilson
LOVE INTEREST → Lucas Sinclair
TIMELINE → Stranger Things: Season Three
MAVERICK WILSON was known throughout the young population of Hawkins, Indiana. He was the "cool kid," the boy everyone wanted to be, the one that people could pick out of a crowd despite never saying a single word to him. He was just that popular.
Lucas Sinclair happened to know exactly who Maverick Wilson was. The older boy that lived down the street who used to babysit Erica, the one that rode his bike around town with his friends long after the streetlights turned on. Maverick Wilson had always known who Lucas was, too. The younger boy at the house on the top of the street that he'd never completely forgotten, the one that once punched Terry Lewinski in the nose after he'd called Maverick a dirty low-life. The two were always so close, just a few houses apart, yet their worlds never met.
As they got older, it seemed like something changed in Maverick. He got angrier faster, he seemed to like his friends less, and he spent all his time down by the quarry until Lucas saw the peak of a flashlight when he was going to bed. Something had changed with Maverick Wilson.
On the last day of school, the two bumped into each other at the book and record shop in the mall, and something neither thought would happen did: they became friends. Friends was a loose word, neither knew what to call it, but that's what they stuck with. Friends.
And that word would have been fine, perfectly fine, if the impending doom that now hung over Lucas' head didn't make everything complicated.
FACE CLAIM → chosen jacobs as maverick wilson
❝ you think you have everything figure out and then the universe is like fuck no, here's some more shit you have to figure out. like, damnit, i just want one moment that isn't ruined! ❞
EXTRA.
→ the title of the book is based off the song, clementine, by halsey. it really, really explains maverick's character, how he feels about himself and the world, and how the world perceives him.
→ maverick and lucas haven't spoken before, not really, at least. they've never been friends despite living next door to each other, though they have spent a few moments together before when they were young kids, solely because they didn't have anyone else to play with where they lived. though, lucas' parents didn't let him play with maverick anymore (which, maverick doesn't know about). but they've always known who the other was, and like it says, lucas observed a lot about maverick since he was the older boy next door, the bad boy who was really popular but somehow a loner but also not, yet he never quite figured out how his gears turned.
→ they meet on the last day of school, which is BEFORE season three! season three takes place right around fourth of july and during it. they become friends, though they're not quite sure what to call it. maverick likes lucas because he's different and doesn't want to be maverick's friend for stupid reasons, and lucas likes maverick because he isn't at all what he thought he'd be.
→ maverick's father is abusive, which is implied in the summary. he spends most of his time away from home because of that. that's why lucas' parents didn't want him around maverick's house. because of his father, he's developed anger issues, and doesn't know how to make friends in a proper and healthy way. please do research on child abuse to know how it would effect him! it is very important to who his character is and his personality and how he presents himself
→ maverick has two older siblings: star, who's played by ryan destiny, who is 19 (steve and nancy's age). an older brother, victor, played by john boyega, who's 23 and lives in georgia and goes to college there. whether or not they're included in the story is up to you, though they would be off at college during the year, since they're both in one!
→ maverick is bi, as is lucas, though neither of them knows. and they won't, really. they just know they like boys and girls, though maverick has known since he was a young boy. that's why his father always chose him more so than the rest of his siblings, because he knew, even though maverick never said or did anything to make him think so. because of that, maverick has internalized homophobia, and wouldn't be jumping to tell lucas he likes him or any of that. honestly, because of his internalized homophobia, he wouldn't know for a long time, and would try to bury it. because of that, and it being the 80's among many other things, they will NOT come out! that would be incredibly dangerous. they will not come out nor publicly date if you choose any of that. it's the 80's, and it's very harmful to their lives, especially maverick's because of his father
