"Did you ask her?" Alex asked putting a hand on my shoulder.

"She said she'd tell Sally."

"Need a ride home?" John asked.

"That would be nice." I smiled and grabbed his hand.

"Do you need a ride, Lex?"

"Yeah. Thanks, Jackie!" Ugh. That stupid nickname again. Why didn't I like it? Why did John like it?

We walked to John's car.

"I call shotgun!" Alex screamed running ahead of us.

I let go of John's hand and ran after him. "Not today, bitch!"

He tried to open the door, but the car was still locked. "Open the door."

John stared at him.

"Please, open the door."

"You're such a child!"

"So's Peggy!"

"She's 14!"

"What does that mean?" I asked.

"I'm trying my best to defend you. I'm sorry." John sighed.

I went up on my toes and kissed his cheek. "It's fine."

"Open the damn door, please!"

"No."

"Please."

"Let Peggy sit there." He wanted me to sit by him. Aw.

"Jackie!" Not again.

"Ugh, fine." It worked? The nickname worked? God damnit!

"But-" I started.

"Sorry, Pegs." John sighed.

"You know what? I don't need a ride home."

"Peggy, it's a fucking seat!" Alex shouted at me.

"Well, I decided I want to walk, okay?"

"Peggy." John said.

"No I'm fine." I started to walk down the road.

"Peggy."

"I'm fine, John."

"Just get in the damn car."

"I can walk, John. Oops. I meant to say Jackie." I ran down the road. John sped up. I ran faster. Until I tripped.

John pulled over. "Baby, are you okay?"

"I-I'm fine." I said through tears.

"No your not. What hurts? Your ankle?"

"No. Nothing hurts."

"Are you sure? You're crying."
