(Cornelia's pov)
15 years later:
"The end." I smiled looking at the group of kids seated in front of me.
"Was Aunt Peggy really like that?" Philip, Alex and Eliza's son, asked me giggling.
"Yes. Yes she was." Maria smiled.
"Is that the journal she gave you?" Taytem, Maria and Peggy's daughter, asked walking over to me.
"Yes."
"What's the surprise?" Philip asked.
"I'm not sure. I never found it."
Taytem took the book and flipped through the pages. "What's this?"
I took the book back. "'My sweet Lia, thank you for stopping me that night. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Thank you for everything you have done for me and what has yet to come. I will love you until the end of time and longer'." I ripped the page out and held it to my heart. Maria reached over and grabbed my hand.
"I miss her." Taytem said looking down. "A lot."
Philip was upset too, but seeing everyone was upset, he changed the subject. "I still cant believe Mom went crazy over Dad and John."
Maria laughed. "That was an interesting night."
"Aunt Lia, do you still think John is annoying?" Taytem asked giggling.
I nodded my head eagerly in response.
"He can be a little annoying sometimes." Philip agreed.
"Mhm."
"And do you still have a crush on my dad?"
"What? I never had a crush on your dad."
"That's a lie." Maria said.
"Is not!"
"Really? Peggy and I found your secret letters to him."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"So you did have a crush on my dad!" Philip exclaimed.
The three of them laughed.
"Philip, I can assure you I never had a crush on your dad."
"What about me?" Alex asked standing in the doorway.
"Aunt Lia used to have a crush on you." Taytem said looking back at him.
He smiled. "I know."
"What? How?"
"It was obvious! You wanted to talk to me all the time. You constantly said you loved me. You-"
"Fine, but I was 6!"
"And 7 and 8 and 9 and 10." John added walking in behind Alex
"Still." I crossed my arms.
"I'm assuming you told them the story." Alex said.
"Of course I did."
"Please tell me you skipped the part about me going insane." Eliza pleaded as she strolled in.
"Nope."
"Great. Now my son and niece know I went insane for no reason at all!"
"It's fine, Mom. It happens." Philip smiled.
"Well Philip, it's getting late. We should get home." Alex said.
"Bye Aunt Lia and Aunt Mar! Bye Taytem!" He ran out to the car with Eliza and John.
"Thanks you two." Alex smiled putting a hand on my shoulder. "And thanks for telling them about her. I still miss my Peggy."
"You're welcome." I smiled back.
He quickly gave me a kiss on the cheek before he walked out.
"Come on, cutie pie, time for bed." Maria said to Taytem.
"Alright, Mama. Night, Aunt Lia."
"Good night." I read the note again. "I will love you until the end of time and longer too, Meg. Life isn't the same without you. I wish you were still here. If only you never got sick." Tears dripped onto the note.
Maria sat next to me. "Oh, Lia."
"I wish I just had the chance to say goodbye."
"Me too." She held out her hand for me. I placed mine on top. "But you're telling everyone about her, and that is all that matters."
I slowly looked up at her. "Remember when I read her the story for the first time?"
"How could I not? She was so upset you stopped at our first Christmas together."
"In my defense, I didn't have enough room to finish it in my journal."
We both laughed.
"74 chapters about the girl who changed my life written by the girl who saved hers. Is there anything better than that?"
"It took me forever to write, but it was a journey."
"Yeah, in 6 months! That's more than your childhood crush could write in that span of time!"
"23 more to be exact."
"Alrighty then, little miss Never-Had-a-Crush-on-Alex."
"Shut up."
"Fine, but get some sleep alright, sweetheart."
"I will, sis."
Maria smiled and walked up to her room.
I flipped through the empty pages. Something caught my eye. The Halloween picture. My OTP with little six year old me grinning in front of them like an idiot with a few missing teeth. How did anyone put up with my chaos?
Chaos is what killed the dinosaurs, darling.
A cold breeze.
