I sat biting my nails, looking at the clock time to time. It's already close to seven at night. And it's his usual timing to come home these days. But the thing is about mercilessly pouring rain. As the outcome of monsoon, everyone shielded themselves under covers. Umbrella's seemed to be of no use, courtesy the whipping winds.
"Did Arnav bituwa called you Khushi? It's pouring heavily." Amma's worried voice worried me more.
If we're in RM, I wouldn't be worried like this as RM is situated in posh area where there wouldn't be any blocks across the roads and nor the roads will be filled with water. But here in Laxmi Nagar, the roads are already waterlogged and God knows how many trees fell across the roads.
"Khushi, call him if he didn't. Ask him where he is? Maybe you should ask him to go RM, if he didn't started his journey yet."
"I am thinking the same amma." Agreed to her suggestion, I dialled his number. Thankfully the call get connected at second try.
"Where're you?"
"I am near Laxmi Nagar khushi. Here some trees fell across the road. I..."
I cut him off to convey my suggestion "Don't take risk arnavji. Go back to our home. Apparently, road will not be cleared soon, so it's safe if you go back now itself."
"I won't."
"Stop being rebellious. Go back NOW."
"I can't."
"What do you mean by you can't?"
"Khushi, I can't reverse my car. There're many vehicles on queue both on my front and back."
I sighed in exasperation. The sound of wind and vigorously pouring rain added up to my worry list.
"Don't worry much. I can still reach home. Give me fifteen minutes."
"How? How'll you come when you can't move your car?"
"Obviously by walk Khushi."
"What? Are you kidding me? You don't have umbrella?"
"So what?"
"SHUT UP. Tell me the landmark near you. I'll come with umbrella."
"You can't. It's..."
"I didn't asked your permission. I am ORDERING you."
I heard his rejected sigh and he told me his place. Without delay, I took two umbrellas and started to walk fast tearing the blowing wind and my legs already damped, thanks to waterlogged roads.
My half mission came to end when I saw him sitting inside his car roaming his eyes here and there. His desperation is clearly reflected on his face.
"Arnavji.." I knocked the window glass and he lowered it down in haste.
"Why aren't you hearing my words? Is it necessary to walk on this rain?"
This laadgovernor always shouts. He doesn't have any other work than yelling at others. In fact he just needs a reason to shout.
"Yes, it's necessary. Come out now."
Rolling his eyes, he opened the car door.
"Wait... Wait... Take this umbrella. Don't get wet." I handed him the another one which I got for him. Thankfully, he saved my energy by taking it without much fuss. I waited until he locks the car.
"Done, Come."
I slapped his extended hand which is getting wet on rain.
"What the!!"
"What??? We aren't on some romantic vacation to walk hand in hand. Keep your eyes straight and don't forget the umbrella." I chided him. I know if he held my hand, the time is not far when he can pull me towards him and I am sure we both will end up catching cold after that owing to his naughty brain.
"You're scolding me a lot today." He sulked matching my slow steps.
"What should I do with you then?"
"Romance."
"What the!!!" I was shocked not by his words but by the strong wind which snatched my umbrella. In no time, I am half wet.
"Serves you right for denying me." His laugh was heard even in the thunderous rain.
"You're having fun." I whined pushing his umbrella away.
"What the!!"
"Now laugh." I crossed my arms and gave a challenging look.
"You're stupid."
"What?"
"What, what? If you didn't came, at least only I would've got wet on rain. Now see yourself."
I face palmed at my stupidity. He's right.
His fingers automatically entwined with mine "Now there's no umbrella and no restriction."
We walked all the way to home hand in hand.
"I did said right Garima, this girl is truly sankadevi. Poor Arnav bituwa." Buaji started her self appreciation on giving me a correct name.
I wiped my hairs and gave him a towel hearing her singing my sankiness.
He sneezed in between the dinner encouraging buaji to scold me. Laadgovernor.
"Sankadevi at least don't forget to give turmeric milk to Arnav bituwa. It'll give relief from cold." Buaji smacked my head.
"As if I won't catch cold." I spat back in annoyance, washing my hands.
"Ok, I am going to sleep." He got up and disappeared into my room. Why do I feel he's escaping from something.
I turned around as amma called me "Khushi, take this turmeric milk. One for Arnav beta and another for you."
Thanking her, I entered the room only to see him cocooning inside the blanket.
Walked towards him, I pulled away the blanket "Arnavji here's your milk. Drink it."
"I don't need it." He get back into his earlier position denying the milk.
"I am not asking your opinion. I am ordering you."
"ASR don't take orders."
"ASR or arnavji I don't care. Both need to obey my orders."
"Both will not. And certainly, ASR will not need any turmeric or milk."
"Don't behave like a kid arnavji."
He pulled the comforter more over his head not giving ear into my scolds. I tried to pull it away, but he held it tightly.
"Drink it now."
He shook his head as no.
"Arnavji..."
After pleading, scolding for ten minutes all I got to see was his sleeping form. Such a Stubborn man he is.
Sighed, I slipped beside him. Both glasses remain untouched. Only morning will tell, whom gets affected by cold.
