Gwen knocked on Melissa's room door.
"Who is it?"
"Gwen."
"Come in."
Gwen walked in.
"Melissa, I'm sorry I-"
"You're fine. I just miss my mother."
"I know how you feel. Divorce is just as bad as losing a family member permanently. My parents' divorce took a toll on me. I loved my dad. Mom hates him even after the divorce. He cheated on her. He was a good dad to me. Daniel's father is a big jerk, as soon as Daniel was born, he wanted a divorce. He never wanted a child, he just wanted to get it on with Mom, all he wanted. He never cared about me or Daniel. Just Mom and sex."
Gwen was balling. Melissa and Gwen hugged as they were crying. Simon was watching the whole thing. He walked in and sat by the girls.
"Uncle Simon."
"Yes baby?"
She hugged him. Gwen patted Melissa on the back.
"Come here Gwen," Simon said.
Simon hugged Gwen too.
"Both of you are my girls. Mine! Gwen, in case you didn't know, I have a soft spot for you and Daniel. Right in here."
He pointed to his heart.
"You're more of a father figure than we'll ever have," Gwen said.
"Gwen?"
"Yeah?"
"My father left when I was born, Mum changed my last name to her maiden name."
"My father died when I was twelve," Simon said.
"Uncle Simon."
She hugged him.
"Girls, a parent is someone who will actually take care of you and love you whether it's your birth or adopted."
"I know."
"I'm glad you know. Let's eat dinner, Yorgo's making some bouliabasse."
"Yay!" Both girls said.
They left the room.
