Melissa was in her room. Vincent knocked.
"Who is it?"
"It's your father. I'm here to apologize."
She thought about it for a few seconds.
"Come in!"
Vincent opened the door and walked in.
"Hi Melissa."
Melissa was silent for a second and then responded.
"Hey."
"You were a newborn last time I saw you. You've grown."
"I'm almost sixteen."
"Sixteen, can't believe it. You'll be driving in no time at all huh?"
"Yeah. I'm gonna ask Hadley to teach me. Uncle Simon can't drive."
"I could teach you."
She shrugged.
"You look just like your mother...and your Uncle Simon, they were like twins except she's older than him by a few years. Got the Ferguson charm, physically and mentally."
"I turned out more like Uncle Simon."
"How?"
"Oh, you know Vincent. My sarcasm, my...uh...good looks-"
"Your mother had good looks too. She was pretty for a woman who was older than me. You know age doesn't matter.-"
"Even if you're a gold digger."
He smiled.
"I'm not a gold digger, your mother and I met in high school. We had so much in common."
"Why'd you leave Dad?"
"Because I wasn't ready then, to have a kid. I was confused. I loved your mother so much, I tried to support her but I personally felt like I wasn't ready. I left, I left a note saying that I was sorry and I wasn't ready for this."
"Are you ready now?"
"I guess so. I love you, I always have, you're my kid."
"Love you too."
They hugged.
While Vincent was getting settled into his room, Melissa found Simon in the lobby on the couch reading.
"Uncle Simon?"
He looked up at her.
"Hello Melissa!"
Melissa sat down next to him and hugged him.
"How'd it go with your deadbeat father?"
"Uncle Simon!"
"I'm sorry, I'm still mad at him for leaving, as your mother's little brother."
"I understand Uncle Simon but you gotta forgive him. I do."
"You forgive that man!?"
"Yes I do. If I can, you can! It'll make things easier for all of us. Please, pwetty pwease?"
She laid on his shoulder with her lower lip sticking out.
"Oh alright, I forgive him...but I'm keeping the grudge."
"At least he's forgiven."
She kissed him on the cheek and left.
"Still don't trust this," Simon said to himself.
