The next morning, Simon walked in on Melissa sleeping. It was about five thirty in the morning, earlier than usual.
"Melissa, wake up."
She moaned and looked at him.
"Uncle Simon, why so early?"
"It opens at six, we better get a move on. Breakfast is served until ten thirty."
"Why are we waking up at five in the morning?"
"Because we need to be there early or we're too late."
She got up and got ready.
Simon was waiting for her in the lobby. She walked downstairs with a pretty black dress on with high heels. She wore her hair up a bun and a black headband.
"Oh my goodness!"
He walked to her and gave her a hug.
"You look so precious!"
"Thank you Uncle Simon."
Hadley walked into the lobby and looked at Melissa.
"Woohoo, Melissa, you look like a model on a runway!"
"Thank you Hadley."
"You ready to go?" Simon asked Melissa.
"Sure."
They were headed for the door.
"Have a good time!"
That afternoon, Yorgo was in the kitchen getting ready to prepare the pigs in a blanket. Melissa walked in.
"Hi Yorgo."
"Hi Miss. Melissa. How was your day with Mr. Ferguson?"
"To tell you the truth, it went great."
"Really?"
"Yeah, me and Uncle Simon are just as close as we were when I was small. You know the show Full House?"
"Yes."
"He's my Uncle Jesse and I'm his Michelle, you know?"
"Aww! Ok Miss. Melissa, the reason why I choose pigs in a blanket for our first lesson is because it is so easy, even a toddler could do it. The little links, we need to fry them, then wrap croissant dough around it, and put in the oven to bake, that's all there is to it."
"Ok."
"Let's get started!"
Melissa put some links in a skillet.
"How long are they supposed to fry?"
"Just a few minutes, you'll see once they brown up a bit."
Soon, Melissa was helping Yorgo wrap the pigs in their blankets.
"This is fun!"
"Yes it is, but, probably the next meal we prepare won't be so easy. These things will get harder and harder as we go. It's just the way I teach. We start easy and it will get harder and harder."
"Gotcha."
"Ok, let's finish up."
Simon was in the lobby with Hadley when Yorgo and Melissa walked in with a tray of pigs in a blanket.
"Pigs in a blanket, Uncle Simon?"
He smirked at her.
"Sure, they look good."
Hadley walked over to them and smelled the food.
"Hmm, they smell great. Can I try too?"
"Sure."
Simon and Hadley both took one and tried it.
"It is good! Melissa, you made this batch?" Hadley asked.
"Yeah."
"They're burnt a little."
"Oh no."
Melissa facepalmed.
"It's ok Melissa, it's your first attempt, it'll be alright. When I first baked a cake all by myself, the cake was burnt black, looked like a rock, it felt hard as rock too."
"She's saying it's alright to make mistakes. We all do, it's a part of life. Don't feel ashamed."
"Thanks Hadley."
"You're welcome honey."
Melissa turned to Yorgo.
"Can I attempt dinner tomorrow?"
"What?" Hadley said.
"What?" Simon said also.
"Sure, as long as I supervise."
"Thanks, I want to attempt Thanksgiving dinner. I remember helping my mother out with dinner every year. I know how, I have the memory of a video camera. You can trust me."
"Ok, we trust you."
"Yes! Thank you so much!"
Melissa hugged Hadley.
