Adeline's P.O.V

I was about to start sophomore year. Normal kids would be spending their time with friends, family, at their jobs, or traveling. Me? I was spending my time, trying to prove my brother's innocence.

Mom came over to help out. Former Mayor McCoy helped out as well. I was an intern for them. The whole summer was stressful for me. Especially of what happened.

Right now, we were in the court room for Archie's testimony. I sat next to my dad who held my hand. Though the room was hot, I still needed reassurance. I watched my brother sit between mom and Josie's mom. I had a fan to keep me cool a little as we sat in the boiling room.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the evidence and testimony that was presented in this court tell a dark story," The lawyer against Archie started to talk." That Mr. Andrews has a history of violent behavior. That he started not one, but two masked vigilante groups. That he assaulted an innocent boy who was helpless with two broken legs. That he went "wilding" in the Southside of town and threatened to shoot a young man in the face. That while partying with his friends in the town of Shadow Lake, Mr. Andrews ran into the woods and shot the victim, Cassidy Bullock, point-blank in the head. Now Mr. Andrews claims that it was his girlfriend's father's doorman who shot Mr. Bullock. A shot Mr. Andrews claims to have heard, but not seen. Who knows the truth of what happened that terrible night in the woods near Shadow Lake? I'll tell you who. That man."

She pointed over at Archie," Archie Andrews may be a varsity athlete and he may be a sensitive musician. But he is also A cold-blooded Killer."

It was mom's turn now. She stood up before facing the jury.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we know, for a fact, that Archie Andrews constantly puts the needs of others ahead of his own," Mom started off." We know he helped to solve the murder of Jason Blossom. We know that he offered both friends and enemies shelter when they had nowhere else to stay. We know that he punched through a river of ice to save the life of his classmate, Cheryl Blossom. Let me remind you that there were no witnesses to the actual killing. There was no murder weapon. There was no motive. At the end of the day, all the prosecution has is cloudy testimony from unreliable people. Now, it is my solemn duty as a mother to protect my son. But as an attorney, it's my duty to adhere to the facts, to the evidence. There is nothing here that proves that Archie Andrews is anything less than an innocent boy. Thank you."

I felt like crying again. I couldn't bare to see my brother go to Juvie for something he didn't commit. My dad held my hand as we stared at Archie.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, the charge is first-degree murder. You may retire to begin your deliberations. All rise."

I walked out of the room for the recess. As soon as I walked out, I saw Sweet Pea standing nearby with Fangs. When we made eye contact, small flashbacks ran through my mind as I thought back on what happened this summer. I felt a hand on my shoulder making me look to see my dad.

"Are you okay?" Dad asked me.

"This whole thing is just overwhelming," I tell him.

"It's going to be okay. Your mom and Ms. McCoy is helping out," Dad assured to me. I nodded at him as mom gave me a hug.

"You were great in there, Mary," Dad told mom.

"Thank you, Fred. It's only the  most important case of our lives," Mom said.

"You were amazing Mrs. Andrews. Really," Betty told my mom.

"Oh Betty. Yours and Adeline's help over the summer was a God send," Mom told her.

"Have you guys seen Archie?" Veronica asked as soon as she came over to us.

"No," I shook my head at her.

"We'll go find him," Betty said before her, Jughead, and Veronica said. I looked over at my parents who still looked upset.

"We're going to get through this," I tell them.

"Oh honey," Mom said before engulfing me into a hug.

The judge ended recess and we all were back inside the court room. I sat next to my dad and Veronica as we were waiting for the response.

"The jury is still deliberating, but I've dismissed them," The judge told everyone. I looked at my dad who looked at me before looking back at the judge.

"They're sequestered and I've instructed them not to read anything about this case, nor to discuss it with anyone. We'll reconvene Tuesday morning after Labor Day. My advice to you, young man, is to spend this weekend with your family and your loved ones. That's all."

Dad and I were with Archie when we walked out. There were some reporters who were talking pictures of Archie. Since I was closed to them, I tried to block them off with my fan as we walked away from them.

"Hey, Archie," We heard. We turned to see Mr. Lodge looking at us. "Have a terrific weekend."

My hands balled into fists. I saw dad walk over to him.

"Fred!" Mom yelled. Dad punched Mr. Lodge in the face making me gasp in shock. Veronica pulled me back as Archie and Jughead went to pull dad away.

"Dad, stop!"

"Guys. Guys. Stop."

We went to Pop's but mom and dad didn't join us. I sat in a booth alone so Archie can talk to his friends. They knew more about what happened that night than I did. I saw a familiar face walk in before sitting next to me in the booth. I smiled softly as they smiled at me.

"Hi, Adeline," Reggie said.

"Hello, Reggie," I say.

"I see that you're alone and not with your brother," Reggie said.

"Just giving him some space with his friends," I tell him.

"I see. You want a milkshake or a soda? On me," Reggie said.

"Sure," I shrugged.

"Pop, can we get two chocolate milkshakes please?" Reggie asked.

"Coming up!"

"So how are you feeling? This summer must've been rough on you," Reggie tells me. It was a rough summer.

"Fine. How are you Reggie?" I asked.

"Getting ready for the football season but with your brother's trial, it's so distracting," Reggie tells me.

"Hello, little Andrews. Reggie," We both looked over to see Cheryl Blossom standing in front of us.

"Hey, Cheryl. How was your summer with Toni?" I asked her.

"It was amazing and we're going to throw a end-of-the-summer pool party at Thornhill and you both are invited," Cheryl smiled.

"We'll be there," I tell her.

"Great! I'll see you both later. Toodles," Cheryl said before leaving the two of us alone.
