Adeline's P.O.V

"Archie? Adeline?" I heard our mom call out.

Archie and I rushed downstairs to greet her. I smiled as I saw mom there by the front door. Archie and I both gave mom a hug.

"I would've picked you up from the airport, but Dad took his truck, and I'm not sure the jalopy's your speed," Archie defended on why he didn't pick up mom.

"Oh, that's fine. I took an Uber. But have you had breakfast yet? We can go to Pop's, my treat," mom offered.

"Actually, can we do dinner instead? I was gonna head to the gym before school starts," Archie said.

"Yeah, your dad mentioned that you'd taken up boxing. Said you're pretty serious about it," mom told him.

"I am, yeah. That's not why you came, is it? To talk me out of it?" Archie asked.

"Not at all. Things were slow in Chicago, and I just wanted to spend some time with my son and daughter. That's all," mom explained.

"Ah."

"I can do breakfast though," I tell mom.

"Okay. Well, Archie, we will meet you up later okay?" Mom said.

"Yeah. Okay. I'll see you both soon."

Mom and I went to Pop's before I had to go to school. We sat in a booth as I was catching up mom on everything.

"I was also thinking about moving up to Chicago with you," I tell her.

"Oh really? What about your dad? And Archie? And your boyfriend of yours?" Mom asked me.

"They all support me on moving with you," I tell her.

"If it's okay with everyone, then you can move in with me after the school year ends," mom told me.

"Thank you mom," I smiled.

At school Beckham and I were by my locker talking until Cheryl came up to us.

"Adeline, Beckham. As you both know, junior prom is coming up and since the theme is Fire and Ice, Toni and I are campaigning to be the most captivating prom queens this school's ever seen," Cheryl said.

"Wow," Beckham said.

"We will be voting for the two of you," I smiled.

"Thank you. I'd nominate you two as well but you're underage, Adeline," Cheryl said.

"Don't worry. When you leave, it'll be my turn to reign terror," I tell her.

"That's my girl! Au revoir!" Cheryl said before leaving us.

"She's scary sometimes," Beckham tells me.

"That's her point in life."

"I'm gonna buy the tickets in a bit. I will see you at lunch though okay?"

"Yeah. I'll see you later," I smiled.

As I walked over to my next class, I saw Evelyn walking. Betty updated me on that Evelyn was actually older than what she appeared to be.

"Evelyn," I called out.

"Yes, Adeline?" She asked me.

"I'm surprised that you're still here," I said.

"I don't know what you mean," Evelyn said.

"You do. Now listen, if you recruit anyone else to your little club, I will report you to the police for impersonating a minor," I tell her.

"You wouldn't."

"I would. Trust me, I've been through worse. Your cult doesn't scare me. In fact, it just disgusts me," I tell  her.

"The Farm has a lot to offer?" Evelyn told me.

"Yeah to unfortunate people. I'm lucky and blessed to have two parents to love me, an older brother who'd protect me from everything, and a boyfriend who'd do anything for me. I don't need some cult to help me get that," I tell her before leaving her.
